Unique Classic of The Day 🏁

The 1950’s “Golden Shara” ✨

A rolling vision of the future, born in the 1950s. The legendary Golden Sahara was more than a custom automobile—it was a masterpiece of imagination, innovation, and futuristic design. A true golden-age icon that was decades ahead of its time.

Built by the legendary George Barris, this masterpiece was unveiled in 1954 and first started its life as a 1953 Lincoln Capri. The build cost Jim Street, the investor, $25,000.

This build landed on the cover of Motor Trend in May of 1955. (See photo 2)

Some features included:

Remote-controlled driving – Could be operated without someone behind the wheel.

Automatic braking – An early obstacle-detection system designed to help prevent collisions.

Illuminated tires – Custom Goodyear tires that glowed from within.

Aircraft-inspired controls – Included a joystick-style steering system.

Gold-plated details – Lavish gold accents throughout the exterior and interior.

This Motor Monday we feature the engine in our 1960 Continental Mark V, the “MEL 430”.

MEL stands for Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln, all which used this engine under the company divisions.

Fun Fact:
In 1958 the “Super Marauder” version of the 430 MEL became the first American production car engine rated at 400 hp. 🏁

Unique Classic of The Day 🏁

A true American original, the Muntz Jet. 🇺🇸

Bold, beautiful, and far ahead of its time, the Muntz Jet was the vision of entrepreneur and automotive innovator Earl “Madman” Muntz. Produced in California during the early 1950s, the Jet was a luxurious, hand-built grand touring car designed to stand apart from anything else on the road.

With its long, low profile, distinctive wraparound styling, and powerful V8, the Muntz Jet combined American performance with an unmistakable sense of individuality. Each car was built in extremely limited numbers, making surviving examples incredibly rare pieces of American automotive history.

The Muntz Jet is a reminder that sometimes the most memorable cars are the ones that refused to follow the crowd.

We are currently restoring a 1951 Muntz and will share more details on the work we’re up to! 🛠️
