A customer presented a 1998 Ford F150 4.2L V6 2WD Automatic with various issues, including reduced engine performance, poor throttle response, and inability to maintain operating temperature. The engine also suffered from multiple oil, vacuum, and coolant leaks. Transmission problems included slipping in second gear and transmission fluid leaks. After consulting with the customer, we proposed a comprehensive engine reseal and transmission replacement. Upon disassembly of the engine, we found a fractured intake manifold vacuum retainer bushing, hindering proper intake runner control valve operation. Replaced components included the upper and lower intake gaskets, timing cover gasket, water pump gasket, oil pan gasket, exhaust manifold gasket, oil pump gasket, front and rear main seal, and thermostat housing gasket. The thermostat housing and thermostat were also replaced. Due to high mileage, the starter and flex plate were replaced. The customer also elected to replace the u-joints on the driveshaft. A section of the transmission fluid cooler lines was replaced as well.
