Our Story
Shaffer's has been a staple in Ames and the surrounding area for over 35 years. We are the largest and most comprehensive auto repair shop in the state of Iowa.
Shaffer’s Auto Body’s humble beginnings trace back to a small building on South Duff which opened its doors in September of 1979 with only two employees. Through hard work, expert repairs and excellent customer service, Sam Shaffer’s business outgrew its South Duff facility in only two years.
By 1981, Sam relocated to our current location on East Lincoln Way, and over the years he has expanded his building seven times. Our 52,000-square-foot facility allows 22 highly trained technicians, mechanics, estimators and cleaning specialists to take care of all your collision repair and general automotive repair needs.
Our collision repair work includes frame and structural repair, cosmetic repair, painting and refinishing, paintless dent removal and more. In addition, our full time technicians provide a complete range of mechanical repair services from brakes to engine replacement. Every technician, mechanic and estimator maintains continuing education in auto repair above and beyond industry standards.
