Heads up. This Monday, June 1st at 7pm, MAACA Mondays is back on Zoom. This is our rescheduled May session.
We'll cover brief overviews of the active Pennsylvania legislation affecting your shop. Then join us in person on Thursday, June 18th from 5:30 to 8:45pm at the Montgomery Township Community and Recreation Center for a deeper dive with your fellow members.
Here's what's on the table:
- SB 1298: Could remove your county from the emissions inspection program entirely. Learn how to get involved in the grassroots effort now.
- 2-Speed Idle Test: Reps. Jeremy Shaffer and Kristin Marcell are circulating a bill to replace this outdated tailpipe test with a standard OBD test for vehicles weighing 8,501 to 9,000 lbs in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh regions. Fewer stations offer it every year. Hear what this change means for your shop.
- HB 1142: Tinted windows would need meter testing at inspection. Shops need clarity on who bears responsibility when a vehicle fails.
- HB 2069: Automated noise enforcement cameras at intersections. $100 fines to registered owners. This could generate customer disputes around exhaust repairs.
- Jay Alerts Pilot: A proposed hit-and-run alert system requiring Philadelphia shops to register and receive vehicle damage notifications from police.
- Garageman's Lien Bill: MAACA has been working on this one. It would give shops a legal path to recover costs for parts, labor, and storage.
Zoom is free and open to all. Mark both dates on your calendar.
