Attention Amarillo customers! Bridgework to change I-40 traffic for 18 months:

Westbound traffic will now use exit 77 and follow the service road to Whitaker. Eastbound traffic will use exit 73 when 74 is no longer available.

According to TxDOT:

Traffic traveling I-40 westbound will be shifted to the south side of I-I-40 just before Lakeside Drive.

Traffic will be shifted back to the north side of I-40 on the west side of Whitaker Road.
This traffic pattern will be in place for the next 18 months for demolition and reconstruction of the westbound bridges at Lakeside Drive and Whitaker Road.

The new exit ramp from I-40 westbound to Lakeside Drive and Whitaker Road will open just after Airport Boulevard. All traffic going to Lakeside Drive or Whitaker Road will need to exit there.

The existing exit ramps for Lakeside Drive and Whitaker Road will be closed.

The existing on-ramp west of Lakeside Drive will be closed; traffic will need to use the westbound frontage road and travel past Whitaker Road to enter I-40 westbound at the Whitaker on-ramp.

Traffic will be in this travel pattern for about 18 months.
