Before you all go putting off road diesel in your trucks remember that fuel filter is going to cost between $80 and $300 to change. You may need a tow. Hear me out.
Dyed fuel the same Ultra Low Sulphur fuel. Correct! Here's the thing. The farm running $5 million in equipment has their own tanks. They get fuel delivered, you can't buy from them. Construction companies have their own tanks. The off road tank at the mom and pop may or may not get high turnover. You may be getting more contaminated fuel whether it be algae or water, but the general rule is always buy diesel from high volume stations.
In a normal world this didn't matter because the only ones buying off road from the mom and pop are local farmers and that old tractor or generator doesn't care what it runs. Newer stuff is a lot more sensitive and has finer micron filters.
Once that volume increases I'm sure the local supply will be as fresh as the taxed fuel. But it will take a little bit.
My point here is don't get all excited to save $20 just to cost yourself downtime.
