A little over a year ago, my son came to me with an idea. He wanted to take a 1974 Chevrolet C-10 and turn it into a dune truck.
If you've stopped by D&B MotorSports over the past year, you've probably seen this truck sitting in pieces or collecting a little dust while we worked through the next stage. What you didn't see were the countless hours behind the scenes.
We started by cutting out the factory crossmembers and removing the entire original drivetrain. Then we took a set of Ford Super Duty axles and rebuilt them from axle shaft to axle shaft. Once they were finished, we positioned everything to get the ride height exactly where we wanted it.
From there, the real fabrication began. We boxed the frame and hand-built nearly everything in-house—from the suspension links, rod ends, transmission crossmember, and motor mounts to the steering and shift linkages. Every piece was cut, fitted, and fabricated right here at D&B MotorSports.
Finally, the day came. The big block fired to life, and the truck made its first trip to Silver Lake Sand Dunes for its maiden test run.
Watching Blaine take this truck out for its first rip made every late night and every hour in the shop worth it. There's still some fine-tuning to do—adjusting the preload, making a few more tweaks, and dialing everything in—but it's already proven what this build was meant to be.
