Over the past two years, our team has remained focused on strengthening Allentown’s manufacturing economy 🏭 and supporting local businesses through incubation, lending, and site redevelopment.

This report highlights key projects, program outcomes, and investments that are helping to protect and grow manufacturing jobs 👷‍♂️, redevelop underutilized sites 🏗️, and advance Allentown’s economic future.

🌀For National Small Business Week, we’re highlighting small businesses right here in Allentown.

Today we are featuring Mad Catter Coffee Roasters, a wholesale coffee roaster in our incubation program. Founder and owner, Jeff Wetzel, keeps both our incubation program and the Lehigh Valley, caffeinated. Since joining the program in 2023, Mad Catter has created a strong following through great coffee and bright, creative branding. While not a coffee shop, you can find Mad Catter at local farmers markets, partner coffee shops, and various events throughout the Lehigh Valley.

This week, we’ve had the opportunity to highlight just a few of the businesses in our incubation program that are building, growing, and working right here in Allentown. A small business community we’re proud of.

🌐For National Small Business Week, we’re highlighting small businesses right here in Allentown.

Today we are featuring Semiconductor Ozone Solutions (SOS), a business in our incubation program supporting the semiconductor industry. SOS specializes in the sales and servicing of semiconductor-grade ozone equipment, helping companies access reliable and high-quality resources for their operations. They are also collaborating with IMEC and Lam Research focusing on the development of advanced ozone infusion cabinets and precision concentration control systems.

💙 For National Small Business Week, we’re highlighting small businesses right here in Allentown.

Today we are featuring High Point Kombucha, a woman owned business in our incubation program that brews… Kombucha! Kombucha is a fermented tea made with beneficial yeast and bacteria. This beverage is known for boosting people’s digestion, immunity, and overall gut health.

Founder and owner, Laura Valasakos, sources ingredients from local Lehigh Valley farms that assist in creating seasonal flavors throughout the year. With over 30 flavors, there is likely something for everyone.

Today, we are featuring ColdEdge Technologies, a business in our incubation program that helps scientists run extremely cold, highly precise experiments without the hassle of traditional cooling methods. Their systems create extremely cold environments, reduce vibration that can impact results, and eliminate the need for liquid helium in many setups.

This kind of technology is used in cutting edge research like quantum computing, space travel, superconductors, molecular studies, and other fields where precision matters at the atomic level.

We are proud to announce that Scott Unger, the Executive Director of the Allentown Economic Development Corporation (AEDC), has been honored by the Lehigh Career & Technical Institute (LCTI) with its prestigious Friend of Career & Technical Education Award.

Each fall, LCTI presents this award to Lehigh Valley community members whose ongoing support for the school’s mission helps both its students and the broader community thrive. This year, LCTI recognized two award recipients: Ann Bieber, President of Lehigh Carbon Community College, and R. Scott Unger. Scott was chosen for his outstanding dedication to workforce development and his strong partnership with LCTI.
Scott’s contributions extend well beyond his role at AEDC. He serves on LCTI’s Executive Committee, hosted the Institute’s administrative team retreat, and shared his expertise as the featured speaker during a back-to-school professional development session for faculty.

Through his leadership at AEDC, Scott has led key manufacturing and urban development initiatives that strengthen the region’s economy and create career pathways that leverage the strong technical preparation of LCTI graduates and strengthen the talent pipeline that local employers rely on.
Please join us in congratulating Scott on this well-deserved recognition and celebrating the lasting impact of his leadership on our students, our workforce, and the future of our community.
