Radnor Concours. gotta be several posts here, a lot to cover, but we will start with the ARCA cars. I was hoping for more in this group, but what was there was cool. I'll add a couple from Rev's institute, and show a couple other race cars that were on hand at the end. For ARCA, the big miss was no MG's. They were pretty much at the heart of ARCA. It all started at the Collier's estate in NY. The 3 brothers, who summered in Europe, were smitten with the road racing they saw there and made a track on the grounds for cycle cars - home made contraptions run on the service roads. this is 1930 -31 or so. Then Barron Collier brought home a J2 MG and they were off and running. In 1933 ARCA started. Prep school buddy George Rand was a Bugatti fan, and Barron's brothers, Miles and Sam, soon were partners in a business importing MG's, other friends and enthusiasts were enlisted, and sports car racing in the US caught a second wind. A Boston division was added to the New York region, and the racing got going at a variety of venues. Cars were European for the most part, where such activities were more common, but homemade specials also appeared, as well as strong showings by a Willys 77. If points were awarded 4, 3,2,1. for the 1st 4 places, MG comes out way in front of the second brand (Alfa-111-41). But no Arca MGs were shown here. Meanwhile heres a sample:
