DANGERS OF WINTER DRIVING, AND HOW TO STAY SAFE

According to data from the U.S. Department of Transportation, 22% of automobile accidents are weather-related. Though Albuquerque roads remain free of the most dangerous winter hazards, such as snow and black ice, we do get some rain every once in a while. As a licensed driver in the state of New Mexico, it is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with the dangers of driving in the rain and what you can do to avoid accidents.

The Dangers Of Driving In The Rain
Rain factors into nearly half of all weather-related accidents in the United States. But why is rain so dangerous? There are several reasons, actually.

On the one hand, rain reduces a driver’s visibility. It also impairs a driver’s roadside awareness and his or her ability to control the vehicle. Unfortunately, many Albuquerque residents fail to adjust their driving habits for rainy conditions. They drive too closely to other vehicles. They do not leave enough room between their vehicles and those ahead of them. They speed. When motorists do not adjust their driving habits to accommodate the weather conditions, accidents happen.

Then there’s the environmental hazards rain creates. When an arid environment such as New Mexico receives rain, all the oils that have been sitting right beneath the road’s surface get pushed to the top. This makes for slick driving conditions. Rain can also hide road hazards, such as road debris and potholes.

10 CAR WARNING LIGHTS AND WHAT THEY MEAN .

Knowing exactly what those warning lights on your dashboard mean is essential to make the right troubleshooting in time or to communicate your car problems more clearly with a repairer. You know?

And though the number of warning lights in your trim can be different from those in other vehicle models, most of them point in the same direction. Therefore, in this article I will explain what 10 important car warning lights mean as a good starting point for you. In the meanwhile, if you’re looking for great offers from a great dealership in Houston, see these near-to-perfection used cars for sale in Houston.

Sign 1; Automatic Gearbox

This sign is only found in automatic cars that you don’t have to engage their gears manually. And the automatic gearbox sign, when it comes ON, indicates a fault in your automatic transmission. The apparent problem you may experience is a failed or malfunctioning gear.

Sign 2; Windshield Washer Fluid

The windshield washer fluid sign is a warning that your car is running out of windshield washer fluid. And all you just have to do is either grab your DIY home-made washer fluid or drive down to the Autozone near you for a new one.

Sign 3; Steering Lock

Inspired to prevent thieves from cruising away with your baby, the steering lock light is self-activated whenever someone tries to move the tires of your car without using an ignition key. If you ever come back to your car to find the steering lock light activated, someone has just attempted relieving you of your vehicle.

Sign 4; Anti-lock Brake System

One of the major signs of a faulty brake is skidding. If you experience your car skidding off direction whenever you use your brakes, the anti-lock brake system is automatically activated and your vehicle automatically stopped to prevent accidents caused by skidding. Way out? Your brakes need an inspection.

Sign 5; Electronic Stability

Computers are built into most high-end cars for a wide range of purposes, one of which is car stability. Once the electronic stability light is self-activated, it means that you’re no longer getting stability support from your car’s computer and you may just have to drive straight to the closest auto shop.

Sign 6; Engine Oil Level

Here are the chances. Each time the engine oil level warning light turns on, it is either an indication that your oil is leaking or that your engine oil needs changing.

Sign 7; Battery Light

At times, you attempt igniting ON your car but fail. If this happens accompanied with the activation of your battery light, it’s either there’s a fault in your charger system, your battery, wiring in your car, your voltage regulator, or your alternator. Only your mechanic can find out exactly what the problem is.

Sign 8; Bulb monitoring

This means that your headlights are dead or about to. Either way, replace them to avoid getting pulled over.

Sign 9; Check Engine

the check engine light, also called the emission controls light, is warning for a fault in your engine compression, a problem in your oxygen sensor, or a loosely screwed gas cap.

HOW TO PROPERLY CLEAN YOUR WIPER BLADES

Squeaking wipers distracting you and preventing you from seeing clearly? Find out how to properly clean your wiper blades to restore this essential safety system. Don’t invest in new wipers or continue to drive with poor visibility, but learn how to quickly and easily restore your ride. Once you tackle this easy maintenance task, find out how you can use loaner tools to accomplish other maintenance projects.

If your windshield wipers are simply smearing dirt and grease over your windshield, it’s time to wipe them down. Start with a damp cloth and wipe your wipers. If this doesn’t work, you may need a glass cleaner, wax remover or specialized windshield wiper product. The problem may also be caused by your windshield wiper fluid, so inspect this to see if it needs to be replaced or topped off. A new set of wiper blades may be necessary if none of these tasks restores the performance of this key safety system.

Why AutoZone’s Loaner Tools Can Help When Working on Your Own Vehicle

Many maintenance tasks require specialized tools. You can take on a windshield wiper replacement service without any tools, but tuning-up your engine, replacing your exhaust or checking the error code on your engine control unit all require unique tools. These tools can be quite expensive, so save money by using a local loaner tool program.

Select the tool you need to take on your specific project. Discuss the project with a local auto parts technician or download a free online resource guide to ensure you know the proper way to use your borrowed tools and how to replace the damaged component.

All you need to do is leave a deposit and you can borrow a professional tool. Use it to inspect, repair or replace an essential auto component before returning it and receiving your entire deposit.

Why You Need to Have a Windshield Wiper Replacement in Your Vehicle

Cleaning your wiper blades is only a short-term solution. Once your wipers reach the end of their life, a cleaning isn’t going to restore your vision or remove that irritating chattering sound. Find out why it’s important to stay consistent with your wiper replacement schedule.

It’s recommended to replace your windshield wiper blades every six months or year. This depends on how frequently you use them, your local climate and the type of blades you have. Replacing them is an essential maintenance step that keeps your windshield free from streaks.

Damaged wiper blades won’t properly clean your windshield. Expect to see streaks, gaps and other performance issues when your blades are reaching the end of their life. Chattering, squeaking and other issues can also be caused by damaged or worn-out blades.Find the correct windshield wipers size for your vehicle before ordering new ones today. Simply measure the length of both wipers to shop for the right size. Another easy way to select a size is to search based on your make and model of vehicle. Your local auto parts store has a complete database of vehicles and the correct replacement parts.
