Watching “Roadkill Junkyard Gold”brought back an old memory. Few people know that when I was a kid around 1988 Bob Harrison was racing Snoopy at Atlanta Southern Nationals. During qualifying the right front strut rod broke after the finish line sending Snoopy into the metal guard rail for several hundred feet. When my brother and I got back to the pits we found an agitated father staring at a wiped out lower passenger side Nova. To our surprise he unhooked the trailer from the 1978 Midas and we went to a local junkyard in search of a strut rod. We were greeted by a southern gentleman with a yard on a red dirt hill full of Novas. The Midas drove out to said hill, Bob proceeded to fire up the generator and use his WW2 electric impact to remove a very nice strut rod. We made it back to the track, Bob installed strut rod and Won class elimination’s the next day with a slightly less aerodynamic Snoopy! Sure wish there was a camera crew following us around because I realize now how legendary this is.
