Another tow operator is fighting for her life because someone failed to pay attention behind the wheel.

On Saturday afternoon, Kellie Glaneman of Blair’s Towing & Recovery was doing what thousands of towing and recovery professionals do every single day, helping clear a disabled vehicle from the roadway on eastbound Interstate 64 near Newtown Road in Virginia. Instead of going home to her three children, she was struck by a passing vehicle while loading a car onto her tow truck.

The injuries are devastating. According to her family, Kellie suffered multiple broken bones, a shattered elbow, shattered thumb, severe injuries to her hand, extensive damage to her hamstring, numerous fractures in her back, and remains hospitalized in serious condition. She is unable to move on her own and spends much of her time unconscious as doctors fight to help her recover.

This wasn’t an unavoidable accident. This was another reminder that every time a driver ignores emergency lights, fails to move over, or refuses to slow down, the people working inches from live traffic pay the price.

Tow operators, law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, DOT workers, and roadside service providers deserve to go home at the end of their shift. They should never have to wonder if the next distracted, careless, or reckless driver is going to change their lives forever.

Its been a couple weeks now, and we figure its time for an update. Brian Wason is doing well and on his road to recovery. He had surgery on his leg and was released from the hospital. Hes home with his loved ones. He had a follow-up appointment last week and they removed the staples and his leg is starting to heal. They are continuing to keep an eye on his orbital and vision to be sure it is healing appropriately. Please continue to keep him, and the 2 others that were injured in this event in your thoughts and prayers.

The responsible party is due in court this evening (Colonie Town Court, 5pm). We plan on being in the area to stand along side Brian and the other victims; to show our support and to continue to raise awareness of the potential catastrophic consequences of not slowing down and moving over. Awareness is key!

We thank the many other tow companies who have reached out to show love and offer support, and we thank the many many folks who have donated to help Brian in his time of need. Brian has a bit of a road to travel yet, but he continues to move forward with a positive attitude and the same humble and caring demeanor that he's known for!

This video is difficult to watch, but it’s the reality our drivers face every single day.

As our tow truck operators work to clear accidents and help people in their worst moments, far too many drivers continue speeding past without slowing down or moving over. Every vehicle that passes too close puts someone’s life at risk.

Tow truck operators, first responders, and emergency personnel deserve to make it home to their families at the end of every shift.

Please remember:
🚨 Move Over when you see emergency or service vehicles with flashing lights.
🚨 If you can’t safely move over, Slow Down.
🚨 Put the phone away and stay alert behind the wheel.

One moment of attention can be the difference between someone making it home or becoming the next roadside tragedy.

Our hearts have been very heavy.

One of our tow truck drivers, Brian, was seriously injured while simply doing his job, after being struck by a driver who was allegedly impaired and distracted.

Every day, tow truck operators, first responders, law enforcement, and highway workers put themselves in harm’s way to help others. They deserve to return home safely to their families at the end of every shift.

This incident is a heartbreaking reminder to move over. Slow down. Put the phone away. Never drive impaired. A few seconds of attention can save a life.

Right now, our focus is on supporting our driver and his loved ones as he begins the road to recovery. We ask everyone to keep him, his family, and all those affected by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.

Please let this be the reminder that changes someone’s choices behind the wheel. No text, call, or drink is worth a life.
