Our customer had an abs and traction light coming on the dash that had them concerned to make an appointment for diagnostics. When we test drove the unit on a slow stops at 5 mph we noticed the left front speed sensor signal was dropping out. A damaged tone ring in the wheel bearing was the culprit for a false signal send. Replacing the wheel bearing corrected the lights and the customer reported the vehicle was also smoother at highway speeds. Nothing like two birds with one stone.

"Brake Replacement 101"
Brake pad and rotor replacement seems to be one of the automotive repair jobs that many DIY'ers and just about every shop will take on. The issue at hand is often so many of the repairs go sour when not performed correctly, either from a lack of education and skill, or even worse with a lack of care.
Here we demonstrate from start the finish, the proper steps taken to replace disc brakes on modern vehicles, the same process we use at RCS Automotive with every brake job. Some vehicles will require different steps, possibly scan tools to depress caliper pistons, or even special tools to twist the pistons backwards, but the quality of a brake job is found in the prep work.
Northern states, aka the Rust Belt, require removal of surface corrosion and debris prior to installing new brake components. Extra measures are taken utilizing anti seize compound to coat the metal components to protect from scale and rust build up later that will cause pad jamming and irregular wear. Silicone paste is used on all moving parts that are exposed to rubber pieces that could swell from using incorrect lubricant. Rotor mounting surfaces on the hub flange or cleaned up to insure a flat surface for the rotor to attach to reduce the chance of warpage.
When done properly, everything glides and moves smoothly, without need of pounding components together to make it work. Brake pad replacement only, aka "pad slapping", is a practice we avoid as it leads to improper wear and pulsation. Brake rotor turning is rarely an option due to internally rusted veins or previously replaced aftermarket rotors that are thinner than OEM leaving not enough material to machine. For the safety and satisfaction our clients, we always practice pad/rotor/hardware replacement.
If you're in the market for a repair facility to replace your brakes, or possibly considering taking on the task yourself, do your due diligence to make sure the job is done right. Failure to do so will in the least cost you tim
Our client reached out with a concern that their engine was knocking and needed replacement. Carefully listening with our stethoscope we determined the noise was coming from the timing belt tensioner bearing and made the recommendation to replace the water pump and timing belt components, a service that was overdue by mileage, and could cause catastrophic failure of the engine if neglected. With our clients ok we jumped into the project, equipped with the special Ford service tools, we retimed the engine with a new belt and components. While checking other components we did detect a screeching from the alternator and they elected to replace that while no additional labor was needed. At the end, our client was very happy to have the noises gone and be set on their overdue maintenance, and we were happy to have gained their future business. If you're needing car repairs don't hesitate to call RCS Automotive (330) 328-7464.
Our customer had a loud pop noise every time they rotated the steering wheel. We could feel the slop in the steering column rotation and determined the PSM coupler had deteriorated leaving metal on metal contact. Dropping dash pieces out we were able to install a new and improved coupler that eliminated the play and silenced the gear to gear contact that had our customer concerned.
Our client was experiencing a stall out concern randomly at times associated with a check engine light. We scanned and found lean codes that lead us to checking primary fuel pump pressure and found the pump to be weak and failing. The Nissan dealership brought us all materials needed to squash this issue for our client and we got them back on the road in no time.
A tried and true method I've used for years when performing drum brake shoe service that an outside parts salesman found unique today when visiting the shop. I'm thinking of posting some helpful DIY tech tips weekly for those out their turning wrenches for themselves. Comment your thoughts and ideas on if you feel this is effective and helpful.
This pristine condition Chevrolet Corvette C6 was brought to us for general maintenance concerns after long term storage. Even with lower mileage, the spark plugs showed wear, excessive idling and fuel stabilizer can create this concern. Our client elected to replace the spark plugs while in for service to restore the pep of this sports car. When leaving, we could hear them down the road for quite some time, enjoying their newly uncovered power. If your special interest vehicle needs attention give us a call at RCS Automotive. Our guest had a reported leak when visiting another facility, they reached out for a second opinion, and we brought them in for evaluation. The valve cover was leaking both externally and internally, putting oil into the spark plug tubes, fouling the plugs, along with oil running out along the block. We resealed all surfaces and replaced the spark plugs. Once dried up, this Chevy was running solid again, and our customer was down the road with a smile.
