In 1969, at Pomona Raceway in California, NHRA founder Wally Parks called on Top Gas racer Jack Jones to pose for photos that would serve as the model for the iconic NHRA national event winner's trophy, known as "The Wally". Racers view winning a Wally as the ultimate goal and mark of a successful racing weekend. Congratulations to our racers for winning the 75th Anniversary Wally at Qlispé Raceway Park.

Who will win the Wally❓Join us Saturday at Qlispé Raceway Park‼️

“Racers will travel hundreds of miles to try to win these things,” said Qlispé Raceway Park General Manager RJ Nomee. “People plan their schedule around Wally races.”

The "Wally" (named after NHRA founder Wally Parks) is 18 inches tall and weighs 12 pounds. Every winner, from local grassroots "weekend warriors" to professional 10,000-horsepower racers, receives the same trophy design. It is a highly coveted prize. Drivers often view winning a Wally as the ultimate goal and mark of a successful racing weekend.

Everyone has a different idea of what a racecar should be like. And you know what? They are all correct! Bring what you have, a good windshield, no fluids leaking, and be able to pass tech. Bring it Friday, July 10th, gates open at 4 pm, racing starts at 6 pm. There is always someone at Qlispé Raceway Park who will give you a helping hand. Racers are very nice folks, for sure.

The countdown is on for the Qlispé Raceway Park's King of the Track Wally Race.

It’s set for this weekend, July 11 and 12, at the Airway Heights area track.

Qlispé Raceway Park General Manager RJ Nomee knows it’s a big deal. After all, the event's namesake, Wally Parks, founded the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) in 1951.

“People will travel hundreds of miles to try to win these things,” said RJ. “People plan their schedule around Wally races.”

This year’s titanium-colored, brightly polished Qlispé Raceway Park Wally Awards are unique and won’t be produced again. That’s because this year marks NHRA’s 75th anniversary.

Be sure to check out the trophies and the competition when you attend these historic races on July 11 and 12. You might catch the same racing bug Wally Parks did decades ago.
