Little bit of rust repair today. This is just the tube that carries the trailer brake wires from one side to the next. But left like this while bouncing down the road, it could definitely lead to cut wires. It was a northern trailer, so it also had some pitting on the frame around the wheels. Some rust converter followed up with some rust encapsulating paint should have it ready to go for quite some time!

This is the embodiment of the old saying “water always wins”.

Customer initially lost lights on/in the trailer. Then it started blowing fuses in the truck when the trailer was plugged in.

Installed new plug, then cleaned all connections where the plug/cable meets the power distribution block on the trailer.

The toggle switch and burnt wire controlled the interior lights in the stall area. It appeared their was a leak in the ceiling dripping down the corner where all the wiring for the taillights ran and where this toggle was placed. Both wires to the switch corroded over time and broke off the body of the switch and would arc off the body of the trailer when it would get power from the truck.

Tech tip, when splicing into wiring either solder connections together and use heat shrink over the bare area. Or use all weather butt connectors that have heat shrink already on them. Even if it’s not in direct contact to water, it’s important to have a protected connection.

Let’s talk about maintenance on smaller scale. This won’t leave you stranded, but can put a damper on your ride. The loading ramp on this bumper pull had 6 grease zerks that appeared to have never been serviced, even though the owner had been having the trailer serviced yearly. The owner could no longer raise and lower the ramp by themself.

If you look at the first picture. Years of sand, dust from shavings, horse p*e and what little grease it had gotten had basically formed wood putty inside the zerk and inside the hinge. 2 of them actually popped out of the hinge when I removed the grease gun! I had to drill the debris out, and work as much of it out of the hinge as possible before drilling/tapping for a new zerk.

Ok, so not a horse trailer LQ. But as an example of finishing off a living space, this was my house that I remodeled in 2018. Made some of my own trim for the pine wall in the kitchen. All trim, tile and cabinet/countertop installs where done myself.

Cool door handle upgrade. The keypad can be used to lock/unlock if you don’t want to ride with your keys in your pocket. Or, it can also be used with a remote fob!

Some bumper pull tack room additions I had done for a customer. Added hooks in the nose of the trailer then fabbed up a foldable rack for hanging show clothes. Also added a swingout blanket rack with a magnet to keep it from flopping around while unloaded.
