Did you know that the cold Fall & Winter air can cause the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) light to come on? This is due to the direct relationship between air temperature and tire pressure.

Air contracts as it gets colder, which reduces the pressure inside your tires. For every 10° drop in temperature, tire pressure decreases by about 1–2 PSI (pounds per square inch).

TPMS systems are calibrated to alert you when tire pressure falls below a certain threshold, usually around 25% below the manufacturer's recommended pressure. In colder weather, the pressure drop might cause the tires to fall below this threshold, triggering the warning light.

If your recommended pressure is 32 psi, 25 percent below means you are at 24 psi; which is severely under inflated. At that low pressure, your safety is at risk, your fuel economy is hurt, and your tire is wearing out too fast.

Maintaining proper tire pressure is crucial for safety, tire longevity, and optimal vehicle performance, especially in cold weather. It is recommended to check your tire pressure at least once a month. And remember: the TPMS light is not a substitute for regularly checking your tire pressure.

It was definitely a bummer not having power at the shop for two days but we made the best of it. The guys and gals at ONCOR were working themselves silly trying to get the area back online. This is the guy that got power back on for our shop and for so many others!
