Q: What is a digital video inspection?

A: A digital video inspection, or DVI, is exactly what it sounds like: when you bring in your vehicle with a particular concern or issue, a technician will inspect your vehicle as part of the diagnostic process. With a DVI, the findings are documented by pictures or short video clips that YOU, the customer, are given so that you're able to see exactly what the technician saw. DVIs are documentation of the problem that you can review before committing to any repair work. This is not unique to us, and is becoming a growing trend so that customers are fully aware and informed of what the problems are.

At Ditmire Motorworks, we believe in giving you all the data so that YOU can make informed decisions concerning the work that needs to be done to fix your vehicle. We want you to understand what we've found, what we're proposing, and what it will cost! We code our findings as Green (checked and does not need work), Yellow (will need attention soon), and Red (needs to be fixed now), and, once we have completed our diagnostic inspection, we'll discuss our findings and give you our professional recommendations. Engine knocks happen when one or more cylinders ignite prematurely. Left alone, these events can result in severe internal damage (piston damage, cylinder wall damage, bent or broken connector rods, and so on) to your engine that can lead to catastrophic engine failure. These most commonly occur as a result of using poor fuels with lower octane ratings. Higher octane ratings mean that a fuel is better able to handle the higher compression ratios common to European cars and trucks without igniting prematurely, and, even though you might pay a bit more per gallon, regular use of these higher octane fuels will save you money on expensive repairs down the road. Premium grade fuel and full synthetic motor oils are the lifeblood of your vehicle, so make sure you're not settling for less! YES, we're able to work on Smart cars! In fact, we've got 2 of them in the shop now! I remember Bill Ditmire having a genuine fondness for these, and so does our current crew! They're certainly interesting vehicles, and, although we don't see them as regularly as some other makes and models, we understand why their owners like them! As someone's who struggled to park some much larger vehicles on city streets, the compact size is certainly attractive! They also have some very impressive fuel economy, which, these days, has got to be really nice!
