No description of our customer-facing team would be complete without recognizing our Owner and President, MS. BETH ANN HARVIE! Like her Brother, Joel Harvie, Beth grew up around Ditmire Motorworks as the daughter of Bill and Sue Ditmire, and, when Bill passed and Sue made the decision to retire, Beth stepped up and took the "Big Chair" in 2022! Like Joel, Beth is also a proud Army Veteran, and she and Joel are our "Dynamic Duo"! HARVIE STRONG! She already possessed an MBA, but has worked tirelessly to build her specific, focused knowledge and understanding through ATI, the Institute of Automotive Business Excellence, and other professional organizations, where she learns form other shop owners and veteran professional mentors, and has worked to build robust processes, policies, mindsets, and operating procedures that are breathing new life into our business. A front-line leader, she still works as an integral part of our Service Team to ensure efficient and smooth operations, and LOVES taking care of our customers....and their vehicles! If YOU get a smell like rotten eggs from your car, that's a significant symptom! If you're also getting some black smoke in your exhaust, hearing a hissing sound from your exhaust, and/or experiencing sluggish acceleration, reduced engine power, or stalling or jerking while driving, chances are that you need a new catalytic converter. This critical component of your emissions system is responsible for converting carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons produced by your vehicle's normal combustion to water, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen before it leaves your exhaust pipe. Without it, you're driving around pumping out toxic gases....and, when it breaks down completely, you'll lose engine power and potentially be exposed to those undegraded toxic gases. Amy has been with us for a few years now, and is a huge part of the pleasant experiences our customers have, whether she's checking in your vehicle, answering your questions regarding work that is proposed or was done, scheduling you for an appointment, or collecting your payment when the work is done. Happy "Hump Day" European car and truck owners, drivers, and enthusiasts of South Jersey!

Taking good care of your transmission goes a long way towards ensuring your car has a long, healthy lifetime. Many manufacturers lull their customers into a false sense of security with the claim that their transmission fluid is a LIFETIME fluid that doesn't need to be changed. However, this is misleading: while the fluid may last through the factory warranty period (5-10 years, 100,000 miles), it generally won't last for the physical lifetime of your car or truck. Transmission fluid changes for manual transmissions should occur every 30,000-60,000 miles, and automatic transmissions should occur every 60,000-100,000 miles to take the best care of YOUR vehicle. Full flushes and filter replacements should also occur at the intervals recommended for YOUR particular vehicle. Don't neglect your transmission! September Greatings, European car and truck owners, drivers, and enthusiasts of South Jersey!

If you see a big puff of black smoke in your exhaust when you accelerate from a stop light, it's a common warning sign that you're "running rich". Other symptoms to watch for include rough idling, poor acceleration, a general loss of your engine power, possibly difficulty in starting you vehicle, or a strong gasoline smell. Your vehicle's engine runs by igniting air:fuel mixtures with your spark plugs, and those controlled explosions are what drives your pistons. The optimal ratio for those air:fuel mixtures is around 14.7 parts air: 1 part fuel, a ratio at which all the fuel should be consumed during combustion. If you're "running rich" the mixture is too high in fuel or too low in air, skewing the ratio. There can be a few reasons why this might be the case:, but the most common reasons are a clogged engine air filter or a defective mass airflow (MAF) sensor. Regardless of the cause, you're taking serious hits to your fuel economy by the time you hit the black smoke stage, and, these days, who wants to fill up more often? For over 20 years, MR. JOEL HARVIE has been manning the front desk at our shop and running our Service Department. He's our Service Manager and also one of the friendly faces you'll see when you stop by our shop. Joel is a big part of our customers' positive experiences, and many regard him as synonymous with Ditmire Motorworks! He has had established himeself as a leading figure of respect and trust here, and so many of our customers and all of us look to him for his sage-like advice. He's also one of the most polite, respectful, and kind-hearted people here. As we remember the people who make us great EVERY DAY, today, we remember JOEL!
