Things you should know part 3
Dashboard warning lights
Dashboard warning lights have become many in modern cars as more systems are added to our motor vehicles. This huge number(of warning lights) has made it hard for even comptent mechanics to know the meaning of each light at a glance.
Hope you've noticed that every time you start your car every dashboard light illuminates and goes out quickly. This is a standard electrical and systems check a car will do for each start.
In case any of the dashboard light stays on, here is a quick guide to help you know whether your car need immediate attention or not.
Dashboard warning lights are in three categories based on their color. That's red, yellow/amber/orange, and blue/green.
Red: indicates safety issue (for example an open door, bonnet or boot) or potentially serious problem (faulty charging system, low engine oil pressure, engine over heating) and these should be addressed immediately.
Yellow/amber/orange light: is a signal to operate with caution. It isn’t as severe as a red dashboard light but is likely to indicate that something needs to be serviced or repaired in the near future.
If an amber light comes on, you can continue using the vehicle with caution, but the issue should be closely monitored. If an amber dashboard light is ignored, it could develop into a major problem. Amber warning lights include; check engine light, low oil level,ABS warning light and others.
Green/blue: these dashboard lights are often not there as a warning or sign of an issue but instead to indicate that something is on or operating. They notify you of certain information that you should be aware of while you are driving. Green or blue dashboard lights include. Full beams on, ECO mode activated, indicators on, coolant system too cold.
