Volkswagen Golf MK2是一台大家都耳熟能詳的經典小鋼炮, 但是講到Golf Country 可能就不是台那麼多人知道的車款了. 它是一款由奧地利公司Steyr-Daimler-Puch 與VW合作生產的中度越野車. 他們將Golf MK2 的車身拉高車體強化後加上四輪驅動系統讓Country的越野功能更加的強大, 在外觀的部份除了明顯的車身高度不同外前後防撞護欄和後尾門上的外掛式備胎讓人一看到就知道她不單純!
每台Golf MK2都已經是曾祖母等級 平常要在路上看到她已經是件很難的事了, 加上Country只限量生產了7,735台, 要在台灣見到她一面更是難上加難!!! 而今天出現在MSG的這台Country真的可以看的出車主對車的愛真是強大. 車主歷經了千辛萬苦才到手了這台1991年豪華版Country, 為了要讓她能順利的走過下一個30年 車主委託MSG更新與重整許多本體與零件. 例如完全重整引擎, 變速箱和差速器…
當然要整理一台30年的限量車款並不會是一件容易的事情, 光是零件的取得就已經是困難重重. 因為Country很多零件取得不易 從確認零件開始只要能夠找到正確的零件不管是在國內購買或是花更多的時間與金錢從國外買料只要是買的到的都算是幸運的, 但最怕的就是遇到已經不在生產的零件…… 這時候只能用盡各種方法來產出符合需求的零件來替代. 例如從引擎接水箱的上下水管與熱水排的水管, 因為它們與原廠Golf MK2 的零件長度與角度全然不同. 所以MSG找到適合的橡膠管彎到正確的角度後中間再用不鏽鋼管做延伸來替代年久力衰的原廠管. 傳動軸套橡皮也年邁力衰, 一樣面臨找不到零件的窘境, 還好MSG有精通德文與英文的工作夥伴藉由波蘭同好網友協助, 利用賓士W124軸套外殼, 更換軸心培林來打造適合的零件.
Volkswagen Golf MK2 is a well known classic compact car that was mass-produced 6.3 million units between 1983 ~ 1992, but Golf Country is a totally different story. Based on the Golf MK2, the Golf Country was co-manufactured by Steyr-Daimler-Puch of Austria. There was only 7,735 units ever made, she was designed for medium off-road driving. Internally they reinforced the body by adding skid plate for protecting the engine area, sub-frame to protect the rear end and then plunged-in a Syncro four-wheel drive system to help conquering the off roads. On the exterior, beside the obvious increase of 21 centimeters in height, bullbars at the front and rear with an externally mounted spare wheel on a swing-away triangular frame completes the whole go anywhere rally look.
Its not easy to see any Golf MK2 rolling around the streets now a days, its even harder to see a Golf Country rolling in Taiwan (in fact there are only two in Taiwan right now). So when we see this Golf Country here in MSG we can tell that the owner have lots of love for her. It was love at first sight when the owner saw this 1991 Golf Country, to make sure that she can keep going for another 30 years the owner asked us to do a full restoration for all the mechanic parts.
To restore a 30 years old limited edition car is not an easy task, let alone doing it in Taiwan. There are parts we couldn’t find in Taiwan so we contacted different manufacture around the world, but it became a nightmare when the parts are no longer in production! For example, there are three water pipe connecting from engine to the radiator and the heater were no where to be found since their spec were totally different from the original Golf MK2. So we had to fabricated the rubber hose to the exact angles on each end and extended it with a stainless steel pipe in the middle to make it perfect fit in the engine. The transmission shaft rubber housing faces the same dilemma! Thankfully we at MSG are fluent in both English and German, found a Golf Country enthusiast in Poland, he told us its possible to use a Mercedes Benz W124’s rubber housing and convert its center axle and bearing to replace the old parts.
