12/10/2026
I was excited and nervous to have my second autocross experience for 2026. The day started off fine with Runul returning from night shift and getting his things done, leaving me to take care of the two kids pack up house and land and carry them by their grandparents. On top of that I was betrayed by biology, so once I dropped off the screaming children, I spent the long drive to Wallerfield in silence sipping tea and hoping the rain that fell the day before wouldn't make a comeback.
Thankfully, the track was dry, the breeze was blowing and all was well. Runul and I both race the Honda Fit GE6, just in different categories. We walked the course, discussing the strategies and where to implement certain skills, where to brake and accelerate and where to place the tires and all that Jazz. If you get that joke, y'all are too deep already and there's no saving you now lol.
We went together for the observation lap after, Runul drove. I invite you to come as a spectator and have a drive along as Runul's passenger. It will change your mind completely about the extent that your vehicle can maneuver and how safe it really is. He has spent years learning how to lean into a car's strengths and weaknesses on a course, and it definitely shows in the way he drives and the results he gets. Enough husband adoration am I right? Let's move on to the fun part of the day.
Reminder, there are classes where vehicles are classified by their features, such as engine power, vehicle weight and modifications to the vehicle. The Fit naturally places in the HS category, which is where I am, and Runul because he's Runul, races in the ES class which is a class up and has more powerful cars (because he likes a challenge). There are 6 timed runs you can make, 3 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon.
My first run was cautious, trying to memorize the track. My second run was my fastest of the day and I was getting braver but definitely losing my race lines after that. With biology battering me, my focus was gone in the afternoon and I started driving less to be fast and more to have fun, resulting in some exuberant skidding and even a spin out. I do like to entertain so that was the highlight of the day for me.
All in all, the Fit handled itself again after a grueling day being driven by both the seasoned autocross driver and the soggy brained rookie. Thanks again to TGA for another amazing, safe and exciting event. Special thanks to every team member doing their part to continue this sport and preserve this community. To all the participants, it was great watching you all together enjoying the day. Until the next one! Trinbago Grassroots Autosports Castrol Trinidad & Tobago Castrol
