New to sailing or just want to brush up on your nautical vocabulary? Here’s your quick guide to the essential directions on a boat.

🔴 PORT — Left side
🟢 STARBOARD — Right side
⬆️ PROW / BOW — Front of the boat
⬇️ STERN — Back of the boat
↔️ BEAM — The side/midpoint of the boat
🌬️ WINDWARD — Toward the wind
🌊 LEEWARD — Away from the wind

And when you hear “port bow” or “starboard stern”, you’ll know exactly where to look! 😉
