A bent valve stem will cause unilateral support of the valve seat on the seating ring. The unilateral stress causes alternating bending stresses and fatigue fractures in the fillet radius at the transition to the stem.

Pistons for two-stroke engines with piston rings which are secured against twisting must not be twisted when inserted into the cylinders. It is often thought that large piston ring joint clearances result in increased oil consumption. However, this assumption has no foundation in fact. Large piston ring joint clearances cause slightly raised blow-by rates, but not excessive oil consumption.

It's true that, with increasing wear, the piston rings become enlarged, as do the piston ring joint gaps. If the cross section of the piston ring is reduced, the ring will cease to function as effectively and will no longer seal properly. An enlarged joint gap and excessive oil consumption are both the result of radial piston ring wear. http://bit.ly/2jOlX8m

For pistons and connecting rods, by using piston pins with DLC coating, bearing bushes are no longer needed. Furthermore, problematic tribological pairing can be realised, where both interacting sliding parts are made of steel. This is already successfully applied for steel pistons or bushless sinter rods.
