A different era. The same pursuit of performance.
คำว่า “Veloce” ในภาษาอิตาลีหมายถึง “เร็ว” หรือ “ว่องไว” และสำหรับ Alfa Romeo ชื่อนี้ไม่ได้ถูกนำมาติดไว้เพื่อภาพลักษณ์เพียงอย่างเดียว
ในปี 1973 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce ถือเป็นหนึ่งในรถสปอร์ตเปิดประทุนขนาดเล็กที่มีชุดวิศวกรรมจริงจังที่สุดรุ่นหนึ่งของยุคนั้น
ขณะที่รถสปอร์ตอังกฤษยอดนิยมหลายรุ่นยังใช้เครื่องยนต์แบบ OHV เกียร์ 4 สปีด และดรัมเบรกหลัง Alfa Romeo มาพร้อมเครื่องยนต์ Nord Twin-Cam ขนาด 1,962 ซีซี บล็อกและฝาสูบอะลูมิเนียม พร้อมระบบ DOHC 8 วาล์ว
ในสเปกโรงงานของแต่ละตลาด เครื่องยนต์รุ่นนี้ให้กำลังประมาณ 129–132 แรงม้า เมื่อจับคู่กับน้ำหนักรถราวหนึ่งตัน เกียร์ธรรมดา 5 สปีด ระบบขับเคลื่อนล้อหลัง Limited-Slip Differential และดิสก์เบรกทั้งสี่ล้อ จึงทำให้ Spider Veloce มีความจริงจังมากกว่าการเป็นเพียงรถเปิดประทุนที่มีรูปทรงสวยงาม
บททดสอบร่วมยุคของรุ่นนี้รายงานอัตราเร่ง 0–60 mph ราว 9.5 วินาที และความเร็วสูงสุดที่แตะระดับประมาณ 190 km/h—สะท้อนให้เห็นว่า Spider Veloce อยู่ในกลุ่ม Roadster ที่ให้สมรรถนะอย่างจริงจังในยุคนั้น
รถคันนี้ปัจจุบันติดตั้งคาร์บูเรเตอร์คู่แบบ Side-Draft ซึ่งมอบทั้งเสียง Intake การตอบสนองของคันเร่ง และคาแรกเตอร์แบบ Analog ที่เข้ากับธรรมชาติของเครื่องยนต์ Twin-Cam ได้เป็นอย่างดี
แต่สิ่งที่ทำให้มันยังน่าขับหลังผ่านมากว่าครึ่งศตวรรษ ไม่ใช่ตัวเลขบนกระดาษเพียงอย่างเดียว
มันคือเสียงจากคาร์บูเรเตอร์ จังหวะของเกียร์ธรรมดา น้ำหนักตัวที่เบา พวงมาลัยที่ส่งรายละเอียดจากพื้นถนนกลับมาถึงมือ และประสบการณ์แบบเปิดหลังคาที่ไม่มีระบบอิเล็กทรอนิกส์คอยกรองความรู้สึกระหว่างรถกับคนขับ

รถคันนี้มีความหมายกับผมมากกว่ารถทั่วไป เพราะมันเป็นรถของป๊าผมเอง
ตอนที่ผมอายุประมาณ 5–6 ขวบ ป๊าเคยมี Alfa Spider พวงมาลัยซ้ายอยู่คันหนึ่ง รถคันนั้นกลายเป็นหนึ่งในความทรงจำแรก ๆ และเป็นแรงบันดาลใจที่ทำให้ผมเริ่มหลงใหลในรถ Performance มาจนถึงทุกวันนี้
ต่อมาด้วยเหตุจำเป็น ป๊าต้องขาย Spider คันนั้นออกไป แต่เมื่อเวลาผ่านไปเกือบ 30 ปี และมีโอกาสกลับมาครอบครองรถคลาสสิกอีกครั้ง รถที่เขายังคงเลือกก็คือ Alfa Spider
ป๊าเคยบอกว่า Alfa มีเสน่ห์ทั้งจากงานออกแบบและคาแรกเตอร์ของเครื่องยนต์ เป็นรถที่ให้ความสนุกในการขับแตกต่างจากรถหลายคันที่เขาเคยมี
สำหรับป๊า Spider คันนี้คือการได้กลับมาพบกับรถที่เคยรักอีกครั้ง ส่วนสำหรับผม Alfa Spider คือหนึ่งในจุดเริ่มต้นของความหลงใหลในรถ Performance ที่พาผมมาถึง QC Performance ในวันนี้
เมื่อถึงเวลาส่งต่อ ผมจึงอยากให้เจ้าของคนต่อไปได้รู้ว่า Spider คันนี้ไม่ได้มีเพียงประวัติศาสตร์ของตัวรถรุ่นนี้เอง แต่ยังมีเรื่องราวของครอบครัวอยู่ในนั้นด้วย

A different era. The same pursuit of performance.
“Veloce” is Italian for “fast” or “swift”—and for Alfa Romeo, it was never merely a badge.
In 1973, the Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce stood among the most technically accomplished compact roadsters of its era.
While many popular British sports cars still relied on OHV engines, four-speed gearboxes and rear drum brakes, the Alfa featured a 1,962cc Nord Twin-Cam engine with an aluminium block and cylinder head, together with an eight-valve DOHC design.
Depending on market specification, the engine produced approximately 129–132 HP. Combined with a kerb weight of around one tonne, a five-speed manual transmission, rear-wheel drive, a limited-slip differential and four-wheel disc brakes, the Spider Veloce was far more than simply a beautiful Italian convertible.
Period road tests reported 0–60 mph in around 9.5 seconds and a top speed approaching 190 km/h—serious performance for a roadster of its size and era.
This example is currently fitted with twin side-draft carburettors, bringing distinctive induction sound, crisp throttle response and an analogue character that perfectly complements the Twin-Cam engine.
Yet more than half a century later, its appeal goes far beyond the numbers.
It lies in the sound of the carburettors, the rhythm of the manual gearbox, the lightness of the car, the feedback through the steering and an open-air driving experience with no electronic layer between the driver and the road.
All of it is wrapped in Pininfarina’s unmistakable Coda Tronca bodywork—elegant in the way only an Italian classic can be, yet engineered with the intent of a true Alfa Romeo sports car.

This car means far more to me than most because it belongs to my dad.
When I was around five or six years old, he owned a left-hand-drive Alfa Spider. That car became one of my earliest automotive memories—and one of the reasons I developed a lifelong passion for performance cars.
Circumstances eventually required him to sell it. But almost 30 years later, when he had the opportunity to own a classic car again, the car he chose was another Alfa Spider.
My dad has always said that an Alfa possesses a rare combination of beautiful design and distinctive engine character—something that makes it feel unlike almost anything else he has driven.
For him, this Spider represents a reunion with a car he once loved. For me, the Alfa Spider represents where my passion for performance cars began—a passion that eventually led me to QC Performance.
Now that the time has come to pass it on, I want its next custodian to know that this Spider carries more than the history of an iconic model. It also carries a part of our family’s story.
