There is a serial scammer called Kane Lee Chong Hoong actively scamming hirer hard earned money by impersonating as co-owner of some car rental companies. Recently, a hirer of my car rental was scammed $15k++ of upfront rental. This guy claimed he is a co-owner of the rental car & company which the hirer rented from, and asked the hirer for upfront rental to coe end by giving substantial discount. In actual fact for my incident, this Kane is just a middleman who posed as the elder brother of the hirer. He brought the hirer down to rent a car from me and he claimed he is the elder brother and will liaise with me for weekly payments of rental. We did not suspect anything amiss as both the surname is the same. The scam came to light when Kane delayed rental payments and I went to confront the hirer directly and realise he had actually gave an upfront rental with CDW payments amounting to $15700 directly to Kane. This Kane went MIA and stop replying all messages. Last know he is staying with a VN lady. Police reports had been made. Does anyone know this Kane Lee personally and knows his whereabouts? Another rental company contacted me today told me he had scammed many other victims of upfront payments > $100k too by misusing their company name more than 1 year ago. I hope the authorities can bring this man to justice again. He had past fraud case with IRAS and was released from jail not too long ago.

Hirers please be vigilant and do not fall into such scammer tactics by giving large amount of rental money without checking with the company itself and make sure the payments are made to the company UEN directly incase of any disputes that might arises in future.
