Morocco Premium Tour

Marrakech to Tangier, by way of Rabat.

Some days are about the road itself, and some are about what the road makes possible. Modern Morocco has the highways to match its ambitions, and that is what allowed a long run north from Marrakech to leave time for the capital of the Kingdom. In Rabat the group walked among the columns of the Hassan mosque, a monument that was meant to be the largest of its kind and was never finished, and which in 1755 saw the earthquake that destroyed Lisbon, the city where this tour began, shake its stones. A few steps away stands the mausoleum of Mohammed V. Then back on the road, and by night, Tangier.

🇧🇷 De Marraquexe a Tânger, passando por Rabat. Há dias que são sobre a estrada, e dias que são sobre aquilo que a estrada torna possível. O Marrocos de hoje tem auto-estradas à altura das suas ambições, e foi isso que permitiu uma longa subida para norte e deixou tempo para a capital do Reino. Em Rabat, o grupo caminhou entre as colunas da mesquita de Hassan, um monumento que ia ser o maior do seu género e nunca ficou concluído, e que em 1755 viu o terramoto que destruiu Lisboa, a cidade onde esta viagem começou, abalar as suas pedras. From the Dades to Marrakech, over the High Atlas.

There is a moment in a good ride when the road stops being a way of getting somewhere and becomes the reason for the day. It came early, among the earthen walls of Aït Benhaddou, and it stayed with us all the way up the Tizi n'Tichka, above two thousand two hundred metres, where the High Atlas opens in every direction and a rider feels very small and very lucky at once. Then the long descent into Marrakech, the lights of Jemaa el-Fna at night, and the Koutoubia glowing over the city of a thousand and one nights.

🇧🇷 Do Dades a Marraquexe, por cima do Alto Atlas. Há um momento, numa boa viagem de moto, em que a estrada deixa de ser o caminho para chegar a algum lado e passa a ser a razão do dia. Veio cedo, nas muralhas de adobe de Aït Benhaddou, e ficou connosco até ao alto do Tizi n'Tichka, acima dos dois mil e duzentos metros, onde o Alto Atlas se abre em todas as direcções e o motociclista se sente ao mesmo tempo pequeno e com muita sorte. Depois, a longa descida até Marraquexe, as luzes da praça Jemaa el-Fna à noite e a Koutoubia iluminada sobre a cidade das mil e uma noites. Marrocos regressa em 2027.

Merzouga to the Dades, along the south face of the Atlas.

There are roads that take you somewhere, and roads that are the reason for going. The ones we did this day belong to the second kind. The valley tightens, opens again, and the road follows at its own pace, asking nothing of you except attention and a little gratitude. By the end of the day nobody was doing sums with the distance.

🇧🇷 De Merzouga ao vale do Dades, pela vertente sul do Atlas. Há estradas que nos levam a algum lado e estradas que são a razão da viagem. As estradas que fizémos neste dia pertencem ao segundo grupo. O vale aperta, volta a abrir, e a estrada segue ao seu ritmo, sem pedir nada além de atenção e um pouco de gratidão. No fim do dia, ninguém fazia contas à distância. Marrocos regressa em 2027.

Fez to Merzouga, across the Middle Atlas and down to the dunes.

Two days, two landscapes. First the Middle Atlas: coffee in the sun, and a stop among the trees where a local monkey chose a rider's shoulder as a seat. Then the Ziz valley, where the palm groves run for kilometres through the desert, a visit to the palmeraie and a Berber community, and finally the first sight of the erg. Camels at sunset, the whole group with arms in the air, and a rainbow over the dunes that was not in the itinerary. We'll take it.

🇧🇷 De Fez a Merzouga, pelo Médio Atlas até às dunas. Dois dias, duas paisagens. Primeiro o Médio Atlas: um café ao sol e uma pausa entre as árvores, onde um macaco escolheu o ombro de um dos nossos motociclistas. Depois o vale do Ziz, onde os palmeirais se estendem pelo deserto, a visita ao palmeiral e a uma comunidade berbere e, por fim, o primeiro olhar sobre o erg. Camelos ao pôr-do-sol, o grupo de braços no ar e um arco-íris sobre as dunas que não estava no itinerário. Aceitamos. Marrocos regressa em 2027.

Morocco Premium Tour in Fez, on foot.

A day without the bikes. The old medina of Fez is the largest car-free urban area in the world, so the riders did what everyone does here: they walked. Through the Blue Gate, into the Bou Inania medersa, past coppersmiths at work in the street, a shop of lamps by the hundred, a traditional apothecary and, from above, the tanneries in all their colour. A guided visit through trades that have barely changed in centuries, included in the tour.

Tangier to Fez, by way of the blue city.

Mint tea in the Rif, then Chefchaouen, where every wall, door and staircase is some shade of blue. There was leather to browse, fresh juice from a stall stacked with pineapples and pomegranates, and a group photo under the old kasbah walls. Then south toward Fez, stopping once more for late light over olive groves and a lake.

Back on the road!

Riders from New Zealand, the USA and Canada flew a very long way to reach a start line in Lisbon. It began the way these things should: a long table, grilled fish, a good red, and a group about to visit two continents.

The next morning the bikes lined up in that low Lisbon light, pointed south, and the day ended on the Algarve. The day after, a ferry across the Strait of Gibraltar with a container ship for company, and by dusk, Morocco: palm trees lit like a disco and a terrace that felt entirely earned.

We believe we're the best company to ride Morocco with, and our riders' reviews say the same. Small group, huge fun. 14 days, 3,480 km, Lisbon to the Sahara and back, fuel and a lot more included. Next departures: 24 March and 6 October 2027.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲. 🏍️

We left Alcobaça and rode west to Peniche, a proper fishing town with its old fortress facing the ocean and the Berlengas islands on the horizon. 🌊

Down the coast to Ericeira, one of the world's few surf reserves: white and blue houses, cliffs and waves rolling in.

Then Cabo da Roca the westernmost point of mainland Europe. Standing on the cliffs, with nothing but ocean between us and the Americas, felt right for a group from the USA 🇺🇸, Canada 🇨🇦 and Brazil 🇧🇷. 🌍

To finish, the Marginal: Cascais, Estoril and the river road into Lisbon — right back where the journey began.

The night ended as it should: farewell dinner, toasts, stories from the road and plenty of laughs. 🥂

Descemos até à Ericeira, uma das poucas reservas mundiais de surf: casas brancas e azuis, falésias e ondas a rolar.

Depois, o Cabo da Roca o ponto mais ocidental da Europa continental. Nas falésias, só com oceano entre nós e as Américas, fez todo o sentido para um grupo dos EUA 🇺🇸, Canadá 🇨🇦 e Brasil 🇧🇷. 🌍

Para fechar, a Marginal: Cascais, Estoril e a estrada junto ao rio até Lisboa — de volta ao ponto onde tudo começou.

A noite terminou como devia: jantar de despedida, brindes, histórias da estrada e muitas gargalhadas. 🥂

We left Coimbra and headed south on quiet back roads, straight into the heart of Portugal's history.

First stop: Tomar and the Convent of Christ, the old headquarters of the Knights Templar. Castle walls, the famous round church and 800 years of secrets a UNESCO World Heritage Site. ⚔️

Then Batalha, a Gothic masterpiece built after the victory of 1385. Stone lace everywhere you look UNESCO again. 🏰

We ended the day in Alcobaça, home to the largest church in Portugal and a monastery founded in the 12th century. Inside lie the tombs of Pedro and Inês, the country's greatest love story a king who crowned his beloved after her death. And yes, UNESCO once more. ⛪

Saímos de Coimbra rumo a sul por estradas secundárias, direto ao coração da história de Portugal.

Primeira paragem: Tomar e o Convento de Cristo, antiga sede dos Templários. Muralhas, a famosa Charola e 800 anos de segredos Património Mundial da UNESCO. ⚔️

Depois, a Batalha, obra-prima do gótico erguida após a vitória de 1385. Renda de pedra por todo o lado UNESCO outra vez. 🏰

Terminámos o dia em Alcobaça, casa da maior igreja de Portugal e de um mosteiro fundado no século XII. Lá dentro repousam Pedro e Inês, a maior história de amor do país um rei que coroou a amada depois da morte. E sim, mais uma vez UNESCO. ⛪

𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵. 🏍️

After a day off, the bikes were ready before we were. We left Porto and picked up the coast, Atlantic on one side and salt in the air.

Aveiro stopped us for a while: canals, colourful moliceiro boats and those striped houses by the water. Coffee, photos, and the famous ovos moles nobody left without trying them. 🚤

From there we turned inland, swapping the coast for quiet roads through pine forest and small villages.

We ended the day in Coimbra, on the Mondego. Home to one of the oldest universities in the world and yes, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Steep old streets, students in black capes, and 700 years of history. 📚

𝗦𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗶𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴.

Depois do dia de descanso, as motos estavam prontas antes de nós. Deixámos o Porto e apanhámos a costa, com o Atlântico de um lado e o cheiro a maresia no ar.

Aveiro obrigou-nos a parar: os canais, os moliceiros coloridos e as casas às riscas à beira de água. Café, fotografias e os famosos ovos moles ninguém saiu sem provar. 🚤

Dali virámos para o interior, trocando a costa por estradas sossegadas entre pinhais e aldeias.

Terminámos o dia em Coimbra, à beira do Mondego. Casa de uma das universidades mais antigas do mundo e, claro, mais um Património Mundial da UNESCO. Ruas antigas a subir, capas negras e 700 anos de história. 📚
