Shudder at light throttle? Don't condemn the converter yet.
Torque converter clutch shudder feels like driving over rumble strips — usually between 35 and 50 mph under light load. Work it in order:
1️⃣ Fluid condition — burnt or contaminated fluid changes clutch friction before anything else does
2️⃣ Scan data — watch TCC slip RPM during apply; steady slip vs. cycling tells you two different stories
3️⃣ Engine misfire — a lean or misfiring cylinder mimics shudder almost exactly
4️⃣ Line pressure — low apply pressure can't hold the clutch
5️⃣ Then the converter — lining failure and ballooning are real, and a Recon Certified unit ends the comeback
