Molecular Neurobiology Laboratory

Molecular Neurobiology Laboratory The Molecular Neurobiology Laboratory is a research laboratory at Inter American University in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.

In my laboratory we study the molecular mechanisms that govern the generation of particular neuronal phenotypes. We use the mouse as a model system to study the development of neurons in the ventral spinal cord that form the motor circuits required for different forms of locomotion. We are currently examining the differentiation of dI6 interneurons which are part of this ventral motor circuit. The

re is good evidence that dI6 interneurons are important for the organization of motor circuits in the ventral spinal cord. Our experiments are directed toward determining the role of a zinc-finger nucleic acid binding protein Wt1 (Wilms tumor 1 homolog) which is a known tumor suppressor gene but has not been well studied in the spinal cord. To this end we are using Wt1 transgenic mice and over-expression studies to better understand how Wt1 influences the phenotype of dI6 interneurons.
