300 SL Gullwing stolen at Nürburgring!

In the night to August 11th, this black 1955 300 SL Gullwing with brown ostrich leather was stolen in front of the Dorint Hotel at the Nürburgring. The chassis no. is 198040 5500434. The car can be easily identified as it has a chopped roofline, double bubble doors, integrated bumpers and side pipes.

Please share this info worldwide and help our friend to get his car back.

The laminated windscreens for 300SL Roadster now available for the price 399,00 EURO (clear) and 459,00 Euro (green tinted).


Mercedes W198 II 300SL Roadster (1957-63) was unveiled by Amercian sports-car champion Paul O'Shea in October 1956 at the Solitude track near Stuttgard. It was then officially launched at the 1957 Geneva Spring Motor Show with appropriate razzmatazz. The ball had again been set rolling by Maxi Hoffman who foresaw good sales prospects in the land of limitless opportunities for an open-top version of Stuttgart's finest. When production of the Roadster ceased in Sindelfingen on 8 February 1963, 1.858 of Mercedes 300SL Roadsters had left the line.

Major events in the history of this model include: from October 1958 onwards, just in time for the approaching winter, an attractive, removable coupe hardtop was available for an extra 1.500 DM; the already very effective bimetalic drum brakes, in which aluminium was coated with a thin layer of cast iron, gave way to Dunlop discs brakes in March 1961; and in March 1962 the Mercedes 300SL Roadster was given a modified engine with an alloy block.
