And you? What’s the one thing a customer says that makes you instantly realise this is going to be… an interesting task? 😅

Let us know! Because you probably know full well that workshop experience means that certain explanations given by customers who bring their cars in for a service sometimes need to be interpreted quite differently.

And you have to be prepared for various scenarios when working on a given car. 🤷‍♂️

‘I only drive in town’, ‘I haven’t changed the cabin filter because there’s no smell’, or the famous ‘Do you need to change the oil in this car?’ These are usually clear indications that the vehicle we’re about to service may already have a completely clogged particulate filter, and the cabin filter we remove should be treated as a biohazard; and when opening the oil cap, instead of black liquid, we should expect sticky butter. 😱

How often do your assumptions, when you hear this type of explanation, turn out to be true? And is the car in the state you expected? Or perhaps this isn’t the rule at all, and when you hear such responses from customers, you don’t always find what you expected? Tell us about them. 💬

And be sure to add your customers’ ‘key phrases’ - those that let you know straight away that this is going to be a job full of excitement and memorable sights. 😉

Do you often use can-type oil filters? Are they still prevalent in your workshop? 🤔

Did you know that the basic design and installation method – screwing them into a thread – have been used in the automotive industry for over 70 years? 😮 That’s right, spin-on filters were used back when cars with manual gearboxes could only reach third or fourth gear at most, and engines were carburetted and air-cooled.

A very, very long time ago in the automotive world, don’t you think?
Despite the passage of time ‘can’ filters are still doing quite well, even in the age of hybrids and power units packed with electronics. 💪 We are particularly happy about this, as it was the founders of WIX Filters, Americans Jack Wicks and Paul Crawshaw, who patented the threaded-connection filter in 1954, the basis for spin-on filters for the past 70 years.

And although 70 years is a long time in the automotive industry, full of changes, new technologies and a completely different approach to many issues, one thing remains constant. Just as we did seven decades ago, at WIX Filters we constantly strive to introduce ever-better filtration solutions to provide better protection and ensure the reliability of the cars you service. 👍And also to make your daily work on cars easier.

This is our mission, which we remain committed to no matter how much time passes. 😊

Which colour is a sign of a coolant problem, when does smoke mean you should check the injectors, and which colour is a sign of burning oil? 🧐

Match the exhaust colour (1, 2, 3) to the symptoms shown in the graphic (A, B, C) and show off your knowledge!

When it comes to car mechanics, the rule of thumb is to look under the bonnet first and calmly investigate where the root of the problem lies. However, there are situations where a quick glance at a running car already provides plenty of clues as to what work is likely to be required. And the colour of the exhaust fumes coming from the vehicle is one such clear and obvious sign. 👁️

An experienced mechanic or a motoring enthusiast who occasionally tinkers with their own car should have no particular difficulty matching the colour of the smoke to the problem it signals. Show that you know your way around a car too and post your answer below. 😉

For example, when you need to consider a leaky EGR cooler, which colour indicates faulty injectors or a clogged air filter, and which colour points to worn valve seals? Try to match the answers to a specific colour. 💬

Who do you think is going to come out on top in this clash? 🆚

The fuel filter you fit in cars at your garage, or the paper discs many of you probably use when brewing your morning coffee?

If you’re particular fans of this aromatic drink, we’re afraid we have to disappoint you: the car fuel filter definitely outperforms the coffee filter here. 🫢

This doesn’t mean the latter works poorly; it simply has a slightly different purpose. Standard paper coffee filters generally trap particles up to 20–10 micrometres in size (1 micrometre is one THOUSANDTH 🤯 of a millimetre, which shows just how fine the impurities in question are). This is more than enough to enjoy coffee free from grounds and any other unwanted particles that might end up in your cup.

The fuel filter, however, faces a far more demanding task. Due to the very high fuel purity required for the proper operation of injection systems in modern engines, such filters must trap contaminants as small as 3–5 micrometres – more than twice as small as what paper coffee filters catch.

But that is not all. Fuel filters must also cope with sudden pressure surges in the entire system and the chemical properties characterising today’s fuels with various bio-components. Without the appropriate preparation of the filter material, such fuel could simply destroy the inside of the filter. 😕

So this isn’t just a simple ‘piece of tissue’ that traps slightly smaller contaminants than the paper we put in a coffee machine. Behind the fuel filter lie advanced technologies and specially prepared materials. All this to make sure your car runs smoothly and uses the cleanest possible fuel. 😊

Motoring is changing. Filters are changing too. ℹ️

Do you miss the days when most engines offered a capacity greater than 1.6 litres, power unit designs were much simpler, and not every car had to come with a turbocharger?

So do we, sometimes. 😉 But whether we agree with it or not, the automotive industry has been changing before our very eyes. New technologies, increasingly stricter standards, and the needs of customers mean that such solutions as long-life filters, downsizing, and three-cylinder turbocharged cars are becoming the norm.

And since engine designs keep changing, filters must change too. We know this all too well, and that's why we use new yet proven solutions in WIX Filters products to further improve filtration efficiency. 🎯

Fuel filters are a very good example here, especially those fitted in diesel engines. When developing a filter for modern diesel engines, many factors must be taken into account. These include the exceptionally sensitive injectors used in the units that require the cleanest possible fuel, the issue of water separation, and even the fact that the very chemical and physical properties of diesel fuel make it more difficult to filter.

That is why, instead of traditional cellulose materials, today’s diesel fuel filters are equipped with a multi-layer medium, which is a blend of cellulose material and synthetic fibres. This combination allows us to utilise all the advantages of both components, improve the filter’s absorbency, the degree of water separation, and the accuracy in capturing contaminants. 🙂

The example shown here is just one of many state-of-the-art technological solutions we use in our filters to ensure they cope as effectively as possible with the challenges posed by today’s automotive industry.

And although times are changing, we remain committed to quality and know how to create filters that serve the cars you service well. When you choose WIX Filters products, you can be sure of this. 👍

Constant repairs, phone calls from customers, changing filters and timing belts, and more cars waiting to be serviced. Does this sound familiar? 😵‍💫

It’s time to put a STOP to all this. ⛔ The time has come for a breather.

With Easter drawing near, we at WIX Filters want to send you our best wishes and say thank you. For your knowledge, professionalism, and for looking after your customers’ vehicles (as well as your own). 😊 And for your unwavering love and passion for motoring, even though it can sometimes be tough, especially when something needs repairing or replacing.

You know best that even the best engine cannot run at full throttle all the time and needs a rest. Take some time to rest and regenerate over the coming days. Spend them with your loved ones, in peace and joy, without the rush and urgent calls from customers.

Slow down a bit so that after the holidays you can return to your workshop duties full of power and energy! 💪

Have a wonderful Easter! For you and your loved ones. 🐣

Write down what you found in this jumble of letters. Which was the first car you noticed? 🚗

Remember, car names can be found both horizontally and vertically. We’ve hidden here well-known brands that have been recognised over many years, as well as slightly less obvious manufacturers with a younger history but rapidly growing recognition. 📈

What were you able to find? Show us! 😊 And let us know which of these cars you’ve come across as a driver or mechanic. Or perhaps you’ve had experience with models from all of these manufacturers.

We’re especially curious about your thoughts on the cars with a certain three-letter name hidden in this puzzle. And it’s definitely not the three-letter car name you first thought of. 😅

Why do you think that has changed, and why are most cars on the road today equipped with rectangular or square – usually significantly smaller – air filters? 💨

Which of the answers shown in the graphic do you think is correct? We’re waiting for your picks. 💬

Circular air filters are, in a way, one of the symbols of motoring from years gone by. A time when cars were built more simply, with less complexity. It was an era when a vehicle’s drive layout was far less intricate and – in theory – easier to repair 🔧 (although this cannot entirely be said about the reliability of such cars). Circular air filters reigned supreme at a time when, in the engine bay, apart from the engine itself and the necessary components, it was hard to spot electronics and various systems squeezed into every last bit of free space.

Well, after all these years, the round air filters once fitted en masse to cars have also disappeared. 🤷‍♂️ Why they are no longer used in most cars today, replaced instead by square or rectangular filters, is a good question. And that’s the question we’re putting to you. 😉

Let us know which answer you believe is correct.

𝗜𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲? 🌷

We hope so! And since nature is waking up from its winter hibernation, it’s a good time for the car you service to feel the arrival of spring as well. 🚘 Let’s not limit ourselves to simply refreshing the interior, thoroughly washing the bodywork or changing the tyres. Let the car feel the new season ‘from the inside’ too. And how can you do that?

By fitting new filters.

Such a replacement is a step your car will certainly thank you for. During the winter months, filters carry out truly demanding, intensified work. Especially when we’re talking about fuel, air and cabin filters.

For the former – particularly if it was working in a diesel car – winter meant precipitating paraffin and accumulating water. The filter had to retain all of this in order to protect the fuel system. ⛽

For the air and cabin filters, on the other hand, the season now coming to an end meant trapping airborne contaminants, which tend to be far more prevalent in winter. Both filters therefore protected health. The air filter safeguarded the health of the car. The cabin filter protected the health of the driver and passengers, ensuring they did not inhale harmful pollutants and unpleasant odours from outside. 🛡️

So let worn-out filters enjoy a well-deserved rest and replace them. The first day of spring is the perfect opportunity for such a service. And let’s not forget about changing the oil and the oil filter as well.

How about you? What regular servicing tasks (apart from fitting new filters, of course) would you recommend carrying out on a car with the arrival of spring? We look forward to your suggestions. ✒️

So it has to be a little bittersweet. Each of these sets includes an automotive legend such as the Mercedes W124, the Lancia Delta or the Volvo 940. 😍 There are also quite interesting cars suitable for everyday urban driving, as well as larger, relatively new cars that are just right for a family trip.

However, each set has one flop. 👎 A ‘trap’ car such as the Renault Laguna II or the Jaguar X-Type, which, to put it mildly, are not particularly popular among owners and mechanics and are prone to frequent, complicated and expensive repairs.

So when choosing your set, you have to bear in mind that you are inviting not only iconic models and solid cars for everyday use into your workshop or garage. You are also taking on particularly unreliable vehicles and committing to their ongoing servicing and to fixing any faults should they occur (and there is a high probability that they will). 😅

It’s getting harder, isn’t it? So, which set of cars would you choose? Which one includes the cars that suit you best and the one you think will be the least problematic? Write in the comments. 💬 Let us know why you are choosing that particular set and be sure to say which car from the entire collection you value the most.

Or perhaps the vehicles considered ‘traps’ are not traps at all in your opinion and, in your view, deserve to be called perfectly decent cars? Can’t wait to hear what you think!

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿, 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗻-𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝘆 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲. ❌

Have you ever replaced an oil filter simply because the thread fitted the car? Or have you witnessed such an installation?

We hope you have never done so yourself. And we know that we often repeat that choosing a filter based only on how it looks on the outside is a serious mistake. We talk about it a lot. But as you can see in the attached graphic, there are very specific reasons for these frequent warnings. ⬇️

In car mechanics, doing something ‘by eye’ is usually not a good approach. And fitting filters is no exception. Selecting a spin-on oil filter solely because it has a similar height to the one being removed, or because the thread fits the car, is a very, very risky approach. Which, as you can see, may end in a failure that sends the car straight to the scrapyard. 🪦

Remember, what matters most in a filter is hidden inside the can. 🔍 That is where the components crucial to the proper functioning of the part are located. And this cannot be assessed even by the most trained eye. Specific data and parameters are required here. Therefore, choose the correct filter for the vehicle you are servicing solely on the basis of the information provided in the catalogue.

This way, you can be sure that the filter you install is designed for the car you are currently working on. 🙂
