Islamabad Traffic Police Deploy Drones to Monitor Traffic Violations

The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has launched an innovative drone surveillance program to enhance road safety across the capital. In a recent operation, this aerial monitoring system helped identify over 300 traffic violators on major highways including the Expressway and Srinagar Highway.

Key Features of the Drone Initiative:

Real-time monitoring of traffic flow and violations

Identification of lane discipline breaches, overloading, and dangerous driving

Educational outreach to 350+ citizens during enforcement operations

Rapid deployment to congestion hotspots for improved traffic management

Violations Being Targeted:
• Illegal lane changes
• Vehicle overloading
• One-wheeling and stunt driving
• Other hazardous driving behaviors

According to Chief Traffic Officer Captain (R) Syed Waheed Haider: "The drone footage enables immediate verification of violations, allowing for prompt issuance of fines and in serious cases, vehicle impoundment."

Future Plans:
The ITP plans to expand drone coverage to all sectors and major roads in Islamabad as part of its smart traffic management strategy.
