As it is difficult for me to drive during night time, it was imperative to upgrade my car’s lighting equipment. I already tried all types of halogen bulbs ranging from the cheap alternatives all the way to the expensive ones like PIAA, Raybrig, Philips, etc. Even with the best halogen bulbs, I found it lacking in intensity and width. So I was left with the HID option but I did not want to use it as a plug and play unit because it produces so much glare to other motorists and the output of the HID bulb is not maximized. This brought me to the world of retrofitting. I am an avid DIY’er, an electronics engineer by profession and now a passionate lighting designer and HID projector retrofitter. I have done many retrofits on all makes and car brands and I continue to improve the design, process and techniques of retrofitting HID projectors. I test comprehensively all the parts I install and my goal on all retrofits is to make a system that you can use for many years, has a wide and intense output and will not cause any safety issues with other motorists. Since 2014 we’ve been upgrading the SJ body by retrofitting 3” bixenon projectors and D4 bulbs. We are now also replacing the LEDs on the C shape park lights. To completely refurbish these headlights, the lens were cleaned and re-coated with anti UV coating.

Ford Everest Titanium + Lighting Upgrade
Knowing the stock headlight system helps in putting together an upgrade package that makes sense in terms of increased lighting performance and cost. The 2015-16 T+ variant comes with a D3S HID system and we have seen many of these headlights being downgraded with plug and play LED bulbs (and being passed off as an upgrade). For this system, the best upgrade is to replace the projectors and install a good D3S HID bulb. We replaced the old projectors with our Hella unit and install Osram CBA bulbs.
The result? a 94% increase in effective light output vs. the stock D3S HID output. We measure the actual surface intensity of the retrofit using LUX meters to objectively come up with a figure so that owners know what to expect. Pictures are good but its not enough. We also installed additional LED projectors for HIGH beam function. Pictures come from inside a dark tint windshield.

We’ve been receiving many comments from owners regarding plug and play LED bulbs they purchased and how its performing poorly on their reflector type headlights.
We sell plug and play LED bulbs with our RS brand BUT we don’t recommend it for reflector type headlights. It will glare other motorists and will lack length and intensity especially H4 type LED bulbs.
This Honda City GM got a proper lighting upgrade with a projector retrofit. You can see the output is properly focused on the road and has length and width. This is also a City GM.
