We need Congress to suspend the excise tax on fuels just for survival.
Gas prices have been climbing for eight straight weeks, ten if you drive a diesel.
Next week’s early estimates predict another ₱2 to ₱3 for gas, and potentially up to ₱10 for diesel if Strait of Hormuz tensions continue to escalate. It’s become so expensive, our lawmakers can’t even afford to gaslight us anymore.
This is why President Marcos is asking Congress for temporary emergency powers to suspend or cut excise taxes now, without waiting for the TRAIN law relief measures to kick in.
If it passes, we’re looking at up to ₱10 off gasoline and ₱6 off diesel, with net savings of ₱3 to ₱6 per liter once the VAT effect ripples through.
A jeepney driver burning 60 liters a day gets ₱300 to ₱420 back in his pocket every day. And because fuel feeds into food, freight, and fares, everyone downstream feels it too.
