Your car’s engine is a brutal battleground of high-speed metal that is timed carefully to work in symphony. In making sure that everything is smooth and lubricated, your engine oil is the key. But how often should you actually change it?
The old rule for mineral oil was every 5,000 kilometers. Modern full synthetic oils can theoretically stretch up to 16,000 kms in ideal conditions, but with the Philippines' standstill traffic and intense humidity, it’s generally advised to change it every 10,000 km. Even if your car just sits parked in the garage, you still need an annual oil change because trapped moisture and daily humidity cycles will silently degrade the oil's additives over time.
Why change it at all? Oil does four massive jobs: lubricating moving parts, absorbing extreme heat, flushing out metal shavings, and sealing cylinders for maximum power. Eventually, heat, soot, metal shavings, and contaminants turn that clean, golden fluid into a dark, gritty sludge that actively destroys your engine.
