Premium or Regular? ⛽️
Many Filipinos still use premium and unleaded to differentiate gasoline types. However, these terms can be misleading. Here’s what you need to know:
1️⃣ All gasoline in the Philippines is unleaded. Leaded fuel has long been phased out.
2️⃣ The correct terms are “premium” and “regular,” not “premium” and “unleaded.”
3️⃣ Premium gasoline has a higher octane rating than regular, but both are unleaded.
4️⃣ Octane rating is not about power—it matches the fuel to an engine’s compression ratio.
• Regular cars and motorcycles have low compression engines and should use regular fuel.
• High-performance vehicles have high compression engines and require premium fuel to prevent engine knocking.
5️⃣ Using the wrong fuel can cause problems:
• Using premium in a regular car is unnecessary and a waste of money. It won’t improve performance.
• Using regular in a high-performance engine can cause pre-ignition, engine knocking, and damage.
🔹 Low Compression = Low Octane (Regular Gasoline)
🔹 High Compression = High Octane (Premium Gasoline)
So, next time, remember: Say “premium” and “regular” because all gasoline today is unleaded!
