HE IS RISEN!

Easter Sunday marks Jesus's resurrection. Mary Magdalene and some of Jesus' disciples visited the tomb on Sunday. They found the stone had been moved and that Jesus's body had gone (Matthew 28:1-15) (Mark 16:2-11) (Luke 24:1-53) (John 20:1-23). Mary and the disciples saw Jesus later that day, and many people saw him for the next forty days. His followers realized that God had raised Jesus from the dead. Christians call this the resurrection.

It is a day of mourning — the day Jesus Christ was laid in his tomb after his death by crucifixion, the term "black" was coined. Also known as Holy Saturday, Jesus was lying in the tomb, and the religious leaders asked Pilate to post guards and seal it (Matthew 27:62-65). That evening, several women bought spices to make a burial anointment (Mark 16:1). It has been given many names such as “White Saturday,” “Easter Eve,” and “Vigil of Easter.”

Holy Saturday is a day of loss, but also a day of quiet hope.

"For you will not leave my soul among the dead, nor let your beloved know decay" (Psalm 15).

Today, Jesus led his disciples in the first act of communion where he symbolizes his death and resurrection through the bread and wine on the Last Supper, during this, we see Jesus washing the feet of His disciples. After showing this example of humility, love, and service, Jesus then commanded his disciples to go and serve likewise. (Matthew 26:17-35) (Mark 14:12-42) (Luke 22:7-28) (John 13:1-17:26)

After, Jesus was arrested in Gethsemane (Matthew 26:36-56) (Mark 14:42-52) (Luke 22:39-53) (John 18:1-10). That night, the authorities condemned Jesus for blasphemy (Matthew 26:57-67) (Mark 14:53-65) (Luke 22:66-71) (John 18:19-24)). The same night, Peter denied Jesus three times (Matthew 26:69-75) (Mark 14:66-72) (Luke 22:54-65) (John 18:15-27).
