The Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued on Friday, September 27, a Show Cause Order (SCO) against the registered owners of two passenger jeepneys whose drivers engaged in dangerous jostling and crashing apparently due to road rage in Caloocan City.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the registered owners of the two passenger jeepneys were also directed to identify the drivers of their respective vehicles for separate investigation on whether or not their driverโs license would either be suspended or revoked.
The viral social media post was uploaded by a netizen who witnessed the incident in Barangay Bagong Silang involving passenger jeepneys with plate numbers TVS-273 and TVN-720.
In the video, the driver of the passenger jeepney was seen deliberately crashing the vehicle to the rear portion of another passenger jeepney. The incident forced the passengers to alight the vehicles.
The video also shows both motor vehicles obstructing the free passage of other motorists.
In the SCO signed by LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division chief Renante Melitante, the registered owners of the two jeepneys were summoned to appear to the LTO Central Office in Quezon City on October 1 and to submit a written explanation as to why they should not be sanctioned for employing reckless drivers.
Melitante also directed the registered owners to have their respective drivers submit separate explanation for three chargesโ Reckless Driving (Sec. 48 of R.A. 41236), Obstruction of Traffic (Sec. 54 of RA 4136) and Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle in connection with the incident stated above pursuant to Sec. 27(a) of R.A. 4136.
โMeanwhile, please be informed that the Plate Nos. TVS-273 and TVN-720 will be temporarily placed under ALARM, preventing any and all transactions while the case is under investigation,โ the SCO read.
โFailure to appear and submit the written comments/explanations as required shall be construed by this Office as a waiver of your rights to be heard, and the case shall be decided based on the evidence on hand,โ it added. #
