Did you know your vehicle has small drainage holes and channels built into the bodywork?

They’re designed to let rainwater and moisture escape. When they clog up, the water has nowhere to go and can start creeping into the cabin.

On our rural roads, the dust, road grime, clay and coastal salt spray can build up in those channels and block them .

You might notice:
▪️ Damp or wet carpets
▪️Misty or fogged‑up windows
▪️ A musty smell
▪️ Mould starting to form

If your car is staying damp inside or the windows keep fogging, blocked drainage channels could be the cause and it may be time for a spring clean before it causes more damage.

Getting the boat ready for summer starts with the trailer. A quick service now saves a lot of stress at the ramp later.

At Automotive Solutions Kauri we give your trailer a proper once‑over:
wheel bearings, tyres, brakes, lights, suspension and any rust spots. All the bits that cop a hiding from winter storage and saltwater.

If your boat trailer hasn’t been checked in a while, now’s the time.

Most people know when to flick on their front fog lights, especially driving through the Hikurangi Swamp on an early morning, but rear fog lights are the ones many drivers aren’t sure about.

Rear fog lights are designed for thick fog, heavy mist or dense spray where visibility drops right down. They’re brighter than your brake lights, so they help other drivers see you from a distance. If the weather is clear, or visibility is normal, leave them off so you don’t dazzle the person behind you.

We’ve had some cracker frosts this week, so what’s the best way to clear your windscreen?

If your windscreen’s frosted over, skip the hot water, it can crack the glass. Use cold or lukewarm water, or let your vehicle’s heater and demister do the work.

Warm water might seem quicker, but the sudden temperature change can damage the windscreen. Cold or lukewarm water clears frost safely and gets you on the road without the risk.

If you’re dealing with a frozen windscreen like we had this week, use cold or lukewarm water to rinse it clear. Hot water can crack the glass.

A quick splash, let the demister kick in, and you’re away.
