Ever looked at the writing on a tyre and wondered what pressure to put in it?

The pressure you should use is the pressure specified for the vehicle—not simply a number moulded into the tyre’s sidewall.

Some vehicles list more than one pressure. There may be different figures for the front and rear, different factory-fitted tyre sizes, or normal and heavily loaded driving.

Match the recommendation to the tyre size actually fitted and how the vehicle is being used—especially when carrying passengers or luggage, or when towing.

You’ll usually find the tyre-pressure placard:

• On the driver’s door jamb or B-pillar
• On the edge of the driver’s door
• Inside the fuel flap on some vehicles
• Or in the owner’s manual

Check the pressures while the tyres are cold for the most accurate reading.

Save this for the next time you’re standing at the air pump wondering what number to use. 💡

This one catches a lot of people out.

A WoF is a safety inspection. It checks items such as tyres, brakes, steering, suspension, lights and glazing. It doesn’t replace regular servicing and maintenance.

A fresh WoF doesn’t necessarily tell you when the engine oil was last changed, whether the coolant is healthy, or whether scheduled maintenance is overdue.

WoF = does it meet the required safety standard?
Service = how is the vehicle actually being looked after?

Save this reminder—or send it to someone who thinks a fresh WoF means their car has been serviced. 💡

Cold wet morning and the windscreen won’t clear?

A lot of people turn the heater up but switch the A/C off because they’re trying to get hot air. The trick is that A/C also removes moisture from the air, so you can use warm or hot air and have the A/C running at the same time.

For a fogged-up windscreen:

Windscreen vents → warm/hot → A/C ON → fresh air → fan up.

Avoid recirculation while clearing condensation because it keeps moist cabin air inside. Plenty of modern cars automatically select A/C and fresh air when you press the windscreen demist button.

Using the A/C regularly through winter can also help keep the system healthy. Refrigerant oil circulates through the system and helps lubricate components and protect rubber seals in the lines and connections. A/C systems vary between vehicles, so follow your manufacturer’s guidance—but it definitely isn’t just a summer button.

Save this for the next foggy morning—or send it to someone who always switches the A/C off. 💡

📢 **ZIP PAYMENT UPDATE**

Zip has announced it will cease providing Zip services in New Zealand from 16 August 2026.

From that date, Holland Automotive will no longer be able to offer Zip as a payment option for vehicle repairs. Customers with existing Zip payment plans will still need to continue making their scheduled repayments directly to Zip as normal.

The good news is that we still offer afterpay for vehicle repairs.

We can also provide written vehicle repair quotes for Work and Income/MSD applications. Approval and payment are subject to MSD’s assessment.

Will you be our next winner?

Hi everyone,

Just a friendly reminder that the workshop is for staff only, unless you are accompanied by one of our team.

We know cars are interesting, tools are shiny, and everyone likes a good nosey — but the workshop has moving vehicles, hoists, hot bits, sharp bits, slippery bits, and plenty of things waiting to trip you up.

For your safety, please pop into the office/reception first and we will come to you.

Thanks for helping us keep the workshop safe, organised, and slightly less chaotic.
