Route of the Month is back!
This month we’re taking on one of New Zealand’s most iconic stretches of road: The Desert Road.
Running between Waiouru and Tūrangi, this 60km section of State Highway 1 climbs to 1,074 metres above sea level delivering wide sweeping roads, dramatic landscapes and unmatched views of Mt. Ruapehu, Mt. Ngauruhoe and Mt. Tongariro 🏔️
A crisp bluebird winter’s day can make this one of the best rides in the country but conditions can change quickly up there. Keep an eye out for ice, strong winds and heavier traffic especially during holiday periods.
Layer up, ride to the conditions and leave yourself plenty of space on the road.
