Be careful out there folks...

Cleanup is underway in the Waimana Gorge where multiple slips and areas of localised flooding have closed State Highway 2 between Tāneatua and Kutarere.

After assessing the slips this morning geotechnical engineers gave the go ahead for our teams to start using loaders to clear the thick mud and debris off the road.

For detour information and updates on the closure, check out this post: https://www.facebook.com/NZTAWaikatoBoP/posts/pfbid02PhEbL8VQLMAHvwhgBhY1aaMZws5zGANDp59FptcnMgGgr9oA9Y3yMGpcFXBU8n22l

Drive to the conditions and only travel if you need to. The more traffic on the roads, the slower the progress for crews working to clear roads and undertake repairs.

Multiple slips, flooding in Bay of Plenty

Bay of Plenty Police are warning motorists to stay off the roads unless travel is essential.

The rain affecting northern regions is now spreading across Bay of Plenty, causing multiple slips and bringing down several large trees.

Roads are blocked and there is already widespread flooding, which is expected to worsen over the course of the day.

SH2 is closed at Maniatutu with diversions in place, while a landslide is partially blocking SH 29 at Omanawa.
