Day 2 of Best of Belron® 2026 is now complete, wrapping up an incredible two days of competition for our New Zealand representative, Thomas Driffill from our Papanui branch.

Today’s challenges included two repairs, a windscreen replacement and a recalibration - all of which Thomas delivered with the same precision and professionalism that earned him the Best of New Zealand title last year.

On‑the‑ground updates say Thomas has “done himself and New Zealand proud,” showing dedication, consistency and a truly world‑class standard throughout the competition. Check out a few highlights from today.

🏆 Best of Belron® 2026 is underway in Lisbon, where the best technicians from around the world have come together to compete in a showcase of technical mastery and precision!

We’re incredibly proud to have Thomas Driffill, from our Papanui branch, representing New Zealand on the world stage after winning the Best of New Zealand competition last year.

🏆 We’re proud to announce the winner of our Best of New Zealand 2025 competition: Thomas Driffill from our Papanui branch in Christchurch! 🎉

After two days of intense challenges—testing everything from customer service to the art of precision glass fitting—Thomas rose to the top.

Having secured 2nd place in 2023, he returned to claim the title this year. Next stop? Lisbon, Portugal, where he’ll represent New Zealand on the global stage at Best of Belron® 2026!

We've been part of Kiwi lives since 1875 - and what better way to celebrate our 150th birthday than by cheering on our top Smith&Smith® vehicle glass technicians from across the country?

The Best of New Zealand competition is back! Our 6 finalists from across Aotearoa are going head-to-head in a live showdown carrying out vehicle glass repair, replacement and recalibration to see who will represent NZ at our Global Belron comp in Portugal 2026 - competing against the best Belron® technicians in the world.

It's like an elite sport. Think speed, precision and serious vehicle glass expertise - all happening in front of a live audience.

Today we’re celebrating 150 years of being there for Kiwis — and trust us, we’ve got some stories to tell. The moments, memories, and milestones that made Smith&Smith® the iconic brand it is today.

You might also spot a fresh update to our logo, with our milestone proudly stamped in our signature green. Fun fact: that green? It goes all the way back to when we created our own shade for Kiwi roof paint. We’re incredibly proud to have been painting the town green — in every sense — for the past 150 years. 💚

May 20 -26 is Road Safety Week here in New Zealand and at Smith&Smith® we want to celebrate our road safety heroes, who each and every day work to help keep kiwis safe on our roads. Today we want to recognise our amazing team at Smith&Smith® Albany.

Chris, Devon and Krystle won our 2023 Smith&Smith® Service Location of the Year award. To win this award they needed to demonstrate consistent results over the year around how they performed their roles of helping keep kiwis safe on the road through repairing and replacing windscreens; ensuring customers had clear vision by ensuring their windscreen wipers were operating correctly, and that the cameras that sit behind some windscreens are calibrated correctly to ensure that the vehicles perform properly in dangerous situations.

We also saw that our customers appreciated their efforts to help keep them safe on the roads with an NPS customer rating that was significantly higher than our national average. True Road Safety Heroes!

May 20 -26 is Road Safety Week here in New Zealand and at Smith&Smith® we want to celebrate our road safety heroes, who each and every day work to help keep kiwis safe on our roads. Today we want to recognise Gavin Wairau.

Gavin is one of our awesome Smith&Smith® Regional Performance Coaches, who travel the country to train our technicians to our global standards , to ensure that all our are fully trained and certified to repair and replace windscreens, and that the cameras that sit behind some windscreens are calibrated correctly to ensure that the vehicles perform properly in dangerous situations.

Gavin is also a past winner of Best of New Zealand – which means he was judged as our best technician in New Zealand in 2021. He represented New Zealand at the Best of Belron in Barcelona in 2022. Best of Belron is our global competition where we choose the Best Technician globally. Gavin finished 4th across all of our Belron countries and did us proud - a Road Safety Hero in more ways than one!
