Today we dropped our coffee cart into Brent at Motor units on Haining Street in Wellington CBD.
I've been dealing with Brent for around 10 years now and have trusted him with everything from cars, boats and motorbikes through to our coffee cart. When something electrical needs sorting, he's one of the first people I call.
Motor Units is one of those hidden Wellington businesses that many people have probably walked past without realising how much experience sits behind the doors. The workshop has been part of Wellington for decades, with roots going back to the post-war era and the business still operating today. Brent started his apprenticeship there, eventually went into partnership with former owner Bob Coveny, and later took over the business himself.
Over the years he's worked with taxi fleets, government agencies, workshops, dealerships, tradespeople and everyday Wellingtonians. Chances are there's a good possibility he's worked on a vehicle you've owned at some point, even if it was through another workshop needing specialist auto electrical expertise.
From lighting upgrades, alarms, radios, GPS systems, batteries and diagnostics through to specialist fleet and emergency service work, Brent has built a reputation for quietly getting the job done properly.
And if you've ever walked past the workshop at 16 Haining Street, you'll probably know Nova and Taco, the local celebrities who sit inside keeping an eye on the foot traffic and collecting pats from anyone willing to stop and say hello
Small businesses like this are the backbone of Wellington. No fancy showroom, no big advertising campaigns, just decades of knowledge, honest advice and quality workmanship.
If you're looking for an experienced auto electrician, or know someone who is, give Brent a shout and support a true Wellington icon.
