One of the questions I get asked most often from students who are taught by their parents or friends to drive, is; "How should I indicate at a roundabout?".
Simply: You must always indicate LEFT as you EXIT a roundabout. So if your going LEFT, indicate left as you approach and keep indicating until you are off. If your going STRAIGHT, don't indicate on approach, but indicate left to exit. If your going RIGHT, indicate right on approach and left off.
Put your left indicator on as soon as you are passed the last exit before the one you are going to take, to give other traffic as much information as you can, as early as possible. Hope this helps. 😃

Winter driving; not to be avoided.

Although you might not think so, Winter is a perfect time to learn to drive. If your going to drive in the dark, on rainy days or on frosty mornings once you pass your test, get out NOW to practice safely.
Wanaka is a hard place to learn to drive when it comes to preparing you for driving in the wider world! We don't get heavy traffic conditions and are limited with the road types. Take advantage of the varied conditions we do get, and practice in these with the expertise of a driving instructor or supervisor next to you. If its windy, raining, frosty or dark, go out in the car and gain the valuable experience so you don't get a surprise when you have to do it alone.

Windscreen chips:
Winter is well and truly on its way so make sure you get any chips in your windscreen repaired. A bit of Freeze/Thaw action when the frosty gets heavy can turn a little chip into a big crack! Fix the problem while its a small one...rather than having to get a new windscreen.

Just a quick note regarding Driver licence tests in Queenstown and Alexandra. After the 1st of May VTNZ will take over all of the practical testing across the whole of New Zealand. However, for now, nothing will change in Alexandra or Queenstown. The tests in Queenstown will still be run from the AA until November (or after).

It turned out to be a great day for driving lessons in Alexandra yesterday.... that was after we got through the sleet showers! Brrrrrr. What happened to Autumn?

I am now running the NZTA approved Street Talk Defensive Driving courses. These courses reduce the length if time you need to spend on the restricted licence.
