Our pleasure to help one of our Valued AA customers.
THE AA CAVALRY. . .
We "camp" often at the old hotel ruins in the Lindis Pass. We were there for a night just after all of that heavy rain a week or two back and the road was OK — not prime, but passable.
Last night, we drove in — road was dry, apart from a couple of sizeable "puddles" which we negotiated OK. But we came to the last — I saw fresh tyre tracks on the other side and headed in. But "Bang", in the middle, a rear wheel dropped into a deep and invisible rut in the murky water and there we were. The underbelly of the camper was, in fact, on the firm ground at the bottom of the puddle and we just could not budge it. We were jammed in, water lapping around the bottom of the doors and just one pair of gum boots.
We were four km off the Lindis Pass highway, but had one bar of 4G phone reception which was enough to call the AA. The nearest service provider, Tim Bruce, was Wanaka and he was having a busy night. We called the AA at 5:30 and Tim arrived at 8:30 and in total darkness, he pulled us out, the bottom of the camper scraping all the way — it was a very hard and tough old pull indeed.
While we waited we cooked our evening meal of spaghetti and meatballs and the wine helped.
