Unfortunately this weekend Meremere Dirt Track Club special event has been canceled for the year.

๐Ÿ“ฃ EVENT UPDATE โ€“ HUNTLY SPEEDWAY SPECIAL EVENT IS CANCELLED ๐Ÿ“ฃ

After much consideration, weโ€™ve had no choice but to cancel our 2026 Special Event at Huntly Speedway.

To put things into perspective, we had 106 competitors signed up for this meeting last year. Unfortunately, this yearโ€™s numbers are only a fraction of that.

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who expressed interest and committed to supporting the meeting. A huge thank you also goes to our sponsors, who were fully on board and ready to support the event. We will be in touch with each of you directly to discuss logistics moving forward.

For those who have already made payments with their sign-up, please complete the form below ASAP so refunds can be processed promptly.

On behalf of the committee, we extend our appreciation to everyone who got behind this proposed meeting.

On a brighter note, we cannot wait to celebrate the race season at our Annual Prize Giving on 13 June 2026! ๐Ÿ

So dust off those dancing shoes ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ because the band is booked and weโ€™re looking forward to celebrating the 2025/26 race season with you all!

What an amazing night last night at our annual Workers Do held at the Huntly Speedway clubrooms.

It was fantastic to see so many of our volunteers come together to celebrate another outstanding season. A huge thank you to Annette & her team for putting together an incredible dinner, along with Hutch keeping the cold beers flowing throughout the night.

The night was marked by honoring some devoted volunteers for their 10+ years of service to the club and those recognized by Speedway New Zealand for their contributions. The commitment, passion & countless hours these people put into Huntly Speedway does not go unnoticed & are hugely appreciated by everyone involved.

To every volunteer, official, sponsor, supporter, committee member & person who helps behind the scenes each & every season, thank you. Huntly Speedway simply would not be possible without the hard work & dedication from so many amazing people.

Weโ€™re proud to have such a strong speedway family & appreciate everything you all do for our club and our sport.

This season we had 27 cars registered, slightly down on last season. Welcome to the new members 11H Shaun Thompson in a J Engineering machine, looking quick at the start of the season; however, Shaunโ€™s season was cut short after receiving an injury in his debut teams racing for the Waikato Raiders & he decided to sit the rest of the season out.

286H Glen Woods & 31H Kyle Symons made a return to the track after a few years off. 69H Jasper Andrell took over the wheel of the ex Bevan Nelson car. 74H Riley Mathieson made the move up from ministocks part way through the season in the Shaun Jury car & was quick straight off the blocks. 78H Tom Langwell ex ministocker took over the Hillbilly C Cab & 913H Byron Brown Dixon also ex ministocks. Byron even got to represent the Waikato Raiders in his first season down at Meeanee. Not a new driver, but 25H Campbell Bryce got his first ever checkered flag this season.

The first feature event for Stockcars was Turf Wars on 13th December. A bit light on numbers as the Waikato raiders were away racing elsewhere. This was the first night out for 4H Josh Humble in his newly acquired car, & a good debut it was with 2 wins from the qualifying races. 118R Joel Steiner was next on points with a 3rd & 2nd, making Humble & Steiner captains to choose their teams. It was Steiners Blue side ultimately victorious in the feature, Joel getting his name added to the shield.

Next up was the Waikato Champs on 10th January with a full field of cars, including a few visitors. The H cars managed to keep it local with 4H Josh Humble 1st 361H Clinton Cheetham 2nd & 16H James Marshall 3rd

Lastly was the Memorial meeting on 14th February. 23 cars took to the grid for the first race, 16H James Marshall taking the win, then 94A Sam Wright & 4H Josh Humble. In the second race, Marshall again taking the checkered flag from 24H Brad Philpott & 97H Kacey Cheetham. The last was won by 45K Matt Shaw from Philpott & Marshall, giving Marshall enough to retain the Hazelton Memorial for another year, Philpott second overall & Kacey Cheetham 3rd.

In the overall club points race it was close between 17H Dave Moore & 32H Jayden Dreadon-Manning early on; Daveโ€™s season was cut short, leaving Jayden a clear contender. 23H Harneet Bassi & 913H Byron Brown Dixon were also in the running. Past midway 361H Clinton Cheetham was also in the chase; however, Jayden & Clinton missed a couple of meetings due to teams racing commitments, Harneet missed a meeting to fit in his South Island tour, & Byron missed a meeting to give Dad a run in the car. This all changed the points standings, with 88H Justin Hutchby sneaking through to the front, followed by 19H Ashlee Morton & 32H Jayden still ending up 3rd.

There was to be one more finale meeting & with the top 4 fairly close on points, that could have well changed things but unfortunately a cyclone coming through put paid to the finale.

On the national scene, several members made the long trip south for the NZ champs & GP: 36H Clinton Cheetham, 97H Kacey Cheetham, 18H Darren Prentis, 23H Harneet Bassi, & 32H Jayden Dreadon-Manning.

NZ Champs at Woodford Glen, Kacey made it through to the finals, ending up 13th overall. NZGP a week later at Greymouth, Clinton & Kacey both made it into the finals but finished out of the top 10. Jayden had already returned back home, so he didnโ€™t make the GP.

Kacey Cheetham also made the trip back down south again for the Battle of the Stocks & along with Harley Robb, winning the Stockcar Pairs Overall.

This year was one of pure talent, determination, & domination by the Huntly team both on & off the track. Every team faced their own testing moments throughout the season, but through it all, our class continued to grow stronger, welcoming 4 new drivers into the Huntly Modified family.

Early in the season, Brett Parsons (69H), Brad Lane (1NZ), & Barry โ€œBazzโ€ Hunter (53H) put on an incredible show at Meeanee Speedway, showcasing our class to a whole new fan base & representing Huntly with pride.

Then came the New Zealand Championships, where the momentum continued. Every Huntly car qualified for the all important feature final, an achievement in itself against the countryโ€™s best. Brad Lane (1NZ) went on to claim his 4th New Zealand Championship title, with Brett Parsons (69H) finishing 5th, Samantha Keeling (199H) 8th, & Barry Hunter (53H) unfortunately suffering a DNF while sitting 16th.

The success didnโ€™t stop there, with Brad Lane (1NZ) taking out the Waikato Champs & Scotty Redfern (96H) securing 3rd place. From there it was off to Waikaraka Speedway for the NZ GP, where 6 Huntly drivers proudly represented the class, & Brett Parsons (69H) drove brilliantly to finish 2nd overall.

Back on home soil for the North Island Championships, the drivers & track crew put in a massive effort to deliver an unforgettable event for both competitors & fans. Brad Lane (1NZ) stood on the top step once again with Samantha Keeling (199H) right beside him in 2nd, making history as the first siblings ever to podium together at a national title event.

The South Island tour was another highlight of the season, with Barry Hunter (53H) & Brad Lane (1NZ) representing Huntly to the highest standard in Greymouth, Dunedin & Christchurch. The pair put on an unforgettable show for fans across the country & continued to showcase exactly what Huntly modifieds are all about.

To finish off the season, we headed to the Auckland Champs, where Brad Lane (1NZ) once again proved why heโ€™s one of the best, taking another commanding victory.

A massive welcome & congratulations also goes to Adam Cobb (5H), Thomas โ€œTomoโ€ Zein (32H), Calvin Scharvi (84H), & Jess McKenna (491H), who joined the Modified ranks this season & absolutely brought the heat. Every one of these drivers showed huge progression throughout the year, & the future of our class is looking incredibly strong.

Matt Addis (411H) showed massive progression before unfortunately having to cut his season short. Keep an eye on him next season because heโ€™ll no doubt come back faster & stronger.

Adam Cobb (5H) battled issue after issue early in the season, but once the gremlins disappeared, his confidence grew every meeting & he quickly found himself right at the front of the pack.

And of course, Barry โ€œBazzโ€ Hunter (53H), the absolute legend of Huntly Mods. No matter the meeting, the travel, or the challenge, heโ€™ll do whatever it takes to support & showcase our class while giving everyone a run for their money along the way.

A huge thank you goes out to all drivers, crews, officials, sponsors, volunteers, & fans who supported the Modified class this season. None of this happens without you.

Now itโ€™s time for a well earned rest & reset before we come back next season bigger, faster, & ready to bring even more action & upsets to the track.

Make sure you head over & support all of our drivers by liking and following their pages!
