โจ Presidents Wrap Up โจ
Thatโs a wrap on the 2025โ26 season at Value Motors Wellington Family Speedway - and what a season itโs been!
We were lucky enough to host three major title meetings this year, and they were all something pretty special. The Hessels Poultry Farm New Zealand Modifieds Champs in December was a huge success across both nights. A lot of work went in behind the scenes, and it paid off with great racing, strong crowds, and a meeting the club can be proud of.
Wellington Anniversary Weekend then brought us the FH Group New Zealand Superstock Champs - a meeting that always carries a bit of weight, and this year was no different. The effort that went into every detail really showed, and we pulled off something pretty special. Although, a lightpost repair really wasnโt in the runsheet! Not only was it a great event, but itโs also helped set the club up for the work weโve got ahead.
We wrapped up our national hosting duties with the Black Sheep Construction North Island Super Saloon Champs - another solid meeting, and even better to see one of our own, 34w Matt Eckersley, finish on the podium with a second place. Thatโs always a highlight for any club.
Alongside those big meetings, weโve had a full season of club racing, championships, and everything in between. Our Kiwi Car Removals Demolition Derby night was one of the best weโve seen in years, and itโs been awesome to welcome back classes like the Classic Stockcars and Flat Track Bikes (and weโll try again with the Midgets next time!). As well as the great success of our new contracted class, the TQ Midgets! With only two official rain-outs, weโve been pretty lucky getting meetings in.
Firstly, a big thank you to our competitors - both our own and those who travelled to be part of our meetings this season. We know how tough things are out there at the moment, and the commitment it takes to get to the track each week is huge. Youโre the show, and we donโt take that for granted.
To everyone who came through the gates this season - thank you. Whether youโre a regular at every meeting or came along for one of our big events, your support means a lot. At the end of the day, we do this for you - and we appreciate you choosing to spend your time with us.
To our Life Members - thank you. The support, time, and care you continue to give this club is something pretty special and doesnโt go unnoticed.
And to all of our other members - competitors, non-competitor members and social members - this club is what it is because of you. Weโre proud to be a club-run facility, where everyone pitches in and gets the job done. That shared effort is what keeps us moving forward and sets us up for the future.
To our volunteers and staff โ youโre the ones making it all happen on race day. From gates open through to the Dub Club bar closing, and everything in between, youโre putting in the hard yards so the show can go on. Itโs a long day (and night), and weโre lucky to have you.
A special thank you to Brian McPhee and Grant Patterson. The hours you both put into the facility each week are huge (and slightly crazy) - from keeping everything looking sharp to the work that goes into the track. Brian, what you do with that track week in and week out is a big part of why weโre known for one of the best surfaces in the country.
To our sponsors - your support is a huge part of what keeps this club running. From helping us deliver major events, to supporting our competitors and maintaining our facility, you play a key role in everything we do. We hope youโve seen value in being part of our club this season, and weโre grateful to have you alongside us.
Our committee also deserves a big thank you. There are a lot of hours that go in behind the scenes during the week - planning, organising, problem-solving, and always keeping the future of the club front of mind. These roles take time away from family and personal lives, and that commitment to making the club better is something very selfless, and Iโm proud to sit around the table with people willing to put in those hard yards for our club.
Looking ahead, weโve already got a big season lined up with the Superstock Grand Prix and Stockcar North Islands on the calendar, plus a few things in the works behind the scenes. Weโre also working through our next 5-year plan to make sure our facility stays in the best shape possible and continues to be something we can all be proud of.
But before then, club members - we've still got some important dates coming up!
๐๐ผ๐บ๐ผ Prizegiving Ball - 20th June
โ๏ธ๐ Annual General Meeting - 30th July
Would be awesome to see as many of you there as possible, details on our club page.
Appreciate everyone whoโs been part of the season - bring on the next one!
Ngฤ mihi,
