If you’re visiting The Abbey soon, keep an eye out for a new addition hiding down the avenue of trees.
It’s a little building called a folly.
Follies have been adding charm to gardens for hundreds of years. They’re ornamental buildings, often inspired by classical temples, that were built simply to make a garden more beautiful and give visitors something unexpected to discover. A place to sit and admire the view.
We thought it was a tradition worth continuing.
As you can see ours is still a work in progress, but before long it’ll be another spot to explore, take photographs and enjoy as you wander through the gardens.
Thanks to Lincoln and Jason for all their hard work on it. This week we installed the doors, they were a great find on Marketplace and I love the deer etchings on them. It’s a subtle reminder of the deer we used to farm here.
