🔧🚛 Isuzu FTR engine inspection underway

This Isuzu FTR, fitted with a Hiab crane, came into the workshop with an engine that’s been burning excessive amounts of oil.

To get to the root of the issue, the cylinder head has been sent off for assessment while the short block is being carefully inspected in-house.

Rinoj is working through the engine, checking critical components including the rings, pistons, and main bearings for signs of wear. This thorough approach helps us identify the cause early and determine the most reliable path forward for the repair 🔧

⚙️🚛 Scania transmission repair in progress

This Scania transmission arrived with a broken lay shaft, so the first step was a full assessment and a look at all the available options. We’ve considered rebuilding the existing unit, supplying a reconditioned transmission, or going new — all with the aim of keeping the job on time and at a sensible cost for our customer.

By weighing up both pricing and lead times, we can recommend the most practical solution without compromising on reliability.

It’s all about smart decisions, quality workmanship, and getting this truck back on the road as efficiently as possible.

EWP Certification | Precision in Progress 🔧

As part of our ongoing EWP strip-down and rebuild, Sven from Tauranga Production Machining Ltd is measuring up to manufacture new pins and bushes for the booms.

These aren’t off-the-shelf parts - the pins are made from specialised metal designed for exceptional strength and wear resistance, ensuring the boom operates safely, smoothly, and reliably once it’s back in service.

It’s this level of precision and collaboration that goes into every stage of a 5-year EWP certification

Big progress on the EWP strip-down! 🚧🔧

Aruna has been powering through the completion of the strip-down, and we’re now at the exciting stage where several components are fully prepped and ready for paint.

From removing, inspecting, and cleaning each part, to getting everything set for a fresh coat, the team’s attention to detail really shows. ✨

🔧 5-Year EWP Certification: Full Bucket Truck Strip-Down ⚡️

When a bucket truck comes into the workshop for its 5-year Elevated Work Platform (EWP) certification, it goes through a full strip-down and rebuild to ensure it’s safe, compliant and ready for work - especially around live powerlines.

1️⃣ Full strip-down
The boom, fibreglass bucket, outriggers and associated components are removed to allow full access to all structural and high-stress areas.

2️⃣ Inspection, testing & electrical insulation checks
All components are thoroughly inspected, including crack testing of stressed parts, hydraulic checks and wear assessment.
Because this EWP is used for powerline work, we also carry out full electrical insulation testing to confirm the fibreglass boom and bucket are correctly insulated from the ground.

3️⃣ Replacement of components
Any parts that don’t meet specification are replaced using approved components — including pins, bushes, hoses, seals or structural items as required.

4️⃣ Reassembly & reconstruction
The truck is carefully rebuilt, torqued to spec, hydraulics refitted and controls and safety systems checked and adjusted.

5️⃣ Paint & corrosion protection
Rust repairs are completed where required, followed by prep, priming and repainting to protect the structure and extend service life.

6️⃣ Final testing & certification
Once reassembled, the EWP undergoes full functional, load and electrical testing before the 5-year certification is completed and signed off.

If your EWP is coming due for certification, talk to our friendly team - experience you can trust when safety matters most.

King Pin Replacement Done Right 👌

This trailer didn’t pass a COF — a gouged base plate and a chipped king pin meant it wasn’t going anywhere without an LT400 and some serious repair work.

Rinoj took the lead on the fix. The work consisted of:
✂️ Cutting out the damaged plate
🔧 Fabricating a new plate to spec
👨‍🏭 Fitting and welding fresh SAF-Holland king pin
⚙️ Rewelding the assembly back into place
✅ The supplied template was used to check for any flex — all within tolerance

Once everything was aligned and tightened down, the job was signed off with full engineering approval.

No shortcuts — just careful, solid work to get this unit safely back on the road 👨🏻‍🔧
