🔧 5-Year EWP Certification: Full Bucket Truck Strip-Down ⚡️
When a bucket truck comes into the workshop for its 5-year Elevated Work Platform (EWP) certification, it goes through a full strip-down and rebuild to ensure it’s safe, compliant and ready for work - especially around live powerlines.
1️⃣ Full strip-down
The boom, fibreglass bucket, outriggers and associated components are removed to allow full access to all structural and high-stress areas.
2️⃣ Inspection, testing & electrical insulation checks
All components are thoroughly inspected, including crack testing of stressed parts, hydraulic checks and wear assessment.
Because this EWP is used for powerline work, we also carry out full electrical insulation testing to confirm the fibreglass boom and bucket are correctly insulated from the ground.
3️⃣ Replacement of components
Any parts that don’t meet specification are replaced using approved components — including pins, bushes, hoses, seals or structural items as required.
4️⃣ Reassembly & reconstruction
The truck is carefully rebuilt, torqued to spec, hydraulics refitted and controls and safety systems checked and adjusted.
5️⃣ Paint & corrosion protection
Rust repairs are completed where required, followed by prep, priming and repainting to protect the structure and extend service life.
6️⃣ Final testing & certification
Once reassembled, the EWP undergoes full functional, load and electrical testing before the 5-year certification is completed and signed off.
