To the friends, customers, and community of Gull Whitikahu,

As some of you may have heard, there has been a particularly scathing article about my character circulating over the weekend.

What you may have seen is, in my view, a heavily one-sided account of an incident that occurred around three years ago. The article contains allegations and implications that I believe do not accurately reflect what happened.

The reporter obtained information from a former landlord with whom I had a significant dispute. My lease was ended early following a disagreement from which the landlord wanted to take over my laundromat, which I had purchased from the him approximately six years earlier. Understandably, this created considerable tension between us, and I acknowledge that things were said and done on both sides that should not have happened.

However, I want to be clear about one particularly serious point: I did not pay anyone to commit crimes, nor was I involved in the crimes referred to in the article. The people responsible were subsequently caught and sentenced more than a year ago.

I believe some of the information now being circulated needs to be understood in that context.

That said, I take responsibility for my own part in the events and I sincerely apologise for anything I did that contributed to the situation.

I don’t want to add fuel to the fire, however, I also don’t want there to be an elephant in the room with people who know me, support my business, or have concerns about what they have heard.

If you have questions or would simply like to hear my side of the story, please come and talk to me directly. I’m happy to have an honest conversation rather than allow assumptions to be made from one-sided reporting.
