It was a pleasure to design and build these stands for TDC

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, wooden and iron hitching posts lined Motueka’s main commercial strip along High Street near early hubs like the Post Office Hotel and general stores, serving farmers arriving by horse and trap.

Leaping forward to today, we’ve just installed a pair of modern-day hitching posts where you can tie up your 21st century equine transport equivalent, your bicycle.

New bike stands have been installed outside the entrance to Te Noninga Kumu Motueka Library on Wallace Street.

The new bike stands provide a convenient place for saddle-sore cyclists to park their mechanical steeds while they head inside and get their fill of literary indulgence.

The stands will also help protect the library building’s cladding from damage caused by bikes being leaned against the wall.

The project was funded by the cash prize winnings from the prestigious COLORSTEEL® Commercial Building of the Year award in 2023, which was awarded to JTB Architects for their design of the building.
